GENERAL NOTES
1. Contractor shall protect all permanent reference
monuments and take all precautions necessary to avoid
survey markers during construction. Contractor shall be
responsible for replacement of permanent reference
monuments disturbed during construction, at no
additional cost to the owner.
2. All unsuitable material such as muck, marl, and debris
shall be removed and properly disposed of within the
limits of construction. Clean granular material shall
be used as backfill and placed in 12 inch lifts.
3. Contractor shall be responsible for the protection of
all existing underground utilities whether or not shown
on the plans. utilities shown on the plans are for
reference only and may not show actual locations.
Contractor shall notify all utility companies for
location and depth of their lines prior to construction.
4. Contractor shall be responsible to coordinate and pay
for the deenergizing of power lines and/or holding power
poles during construction at no additional cost to the
owner.
5. All elevations refer to N.G.V.D. Minimum finished floor
elevation(s) shall be 1~5' N.G.V.D., or 18 inches
above minimum road crown elevation whichever is greater.
6. Shop drawings shall be submitted to the Engineer for
review prior to construction or installation as required
by the Engineer or by appropriate governing agencies.
7. Contractor shall be responsible to secure and pay for,
at no additional cost to the owner, all necessary
permits, fees and licenses.
8. Contractor shall be responsible for giving the required
notices and complying with all permit(s) conditions.
9. Contractor shall be responsible to coordinate and pay
for the holding of other utility poles during
construction at no additional cost to the owner.
10. All concrete shall be 3,000 psi. unless otherwise
specified.
11. All utility construction shall be in accordance with the
requirements of the local utility.
12. Shalloway, Inc. shall not be responsible for the safety
of the workers or the general public. Contractor shall
be responsible for providing safety to the workers in
accordance with Occupational Safety & Health
Administrations (OSHA) requirements and the safety of
the general public.

PAVING, GRADING AND DRAINAGE NOTES
1.
Subgrade shall be constructed as shown on the detail
drawings. The subgrade shall be compacted to a density
of 98% of the maximum density as determined by AASHTO
T-180.
Stabilized subgrade shall be cons~ructed as shown on
the detail drawings and in accordance with Section 160
of the Florida Department of Transportation Standard
Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction, latest
edition. The stabilized subgrade shall be Type C and
shall be compacted to a density of 98% of the maximum
density as determined by test method C of AASHTO T-180.
The stabilized subgrade shall have a Florida Soil
Bearing value of 75 psi.
Shellrock base shall be constructed in accordance with
Section 250 of the Florida Department of Transportation
Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge
Construction, latest edition. The thickness of the
shellrock base shall be as shown on the detail drawings
and shall be compacted to a density of 98% of the
maximum density as determined by AASHTO T-180. The
shellrock shall have a minimum of 40 percent of
carbonates of calcium and magnesium in the material.
7.
Prime coat shall be in accordance with Section 300 of
the Florida Department of Transportation Standard
Specification for Road and Bridge Construction, latest
edition. Prime coat shall be RC-70 or Asphalt Emulsion
Prime (AEP). Prime coat shall be applied at a rate of
application not less than 0.10 gallons per square yard
for limerock bases and not less than 0.15 gallons per
square yard for shellrock or coquina shell bases.
Tack coat shall be in accordance with Section 300 of
the Florida Department of Transportation Standard
Specifications for Road and Bridge construction, latest
edition. Tack coat shall be Emulsified Asphalt Grades
RS-2, CRS-2, or Asphalt Emulsion Prime (AEP). Tack
coat shall be applied at a rate of application between
0.02 and 0.08 gallons per square yard.
Type S-I Asphaltic concrete surface course shall be in
accordance with Section 331 of the Florida Department
of Transportation Standard Specifications for Road and
Bridge Construction, latest edition. The thickness of
the surface course shall be as shown on the detail
drawings.
All unsuitable ~aterial such as muck, marl and debris
shall be completely removed to 10 feet outside the edge
of the pavement on each side. If hardpan is
encountered in swales, it shall be removed to a depth
of 2 feet at the swale invert and backfilled with clean
granular material.
8.
Sequencing of construction shall be such that all
underground installations of any kind that will come
under the pavement or within ten feet of the edge of
pavement shall be installed prior to the construction
of the base course.
9.
Pavement traffic stripes and markings shall be in
accordance with Section 710 and 711 of the Florida
Department of Transportation Standard Specifications
for Road and Bridge construction, latest edition,
Florida Department of Transportation Traffic Operation
Standards Index No. 17346, latest revision, and/or
Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devises for streets
and Highways and the Palm Beach County Engineering
Department Typical Turn Lane Geometrics and Pavement
Markings, Drawing No. T-2-85-005-PS.
Reinforced concrete pipe shall meet the requirements of
ASTM C-76 and Sections 125, 430 and 941 of the Florida
Department of Transportation Standard Specifications
for Road and Bridge Construction, latest edition. The
class of pipe shall be Class III unless otherwise noted
on the cQnstruction drawings.
~1. Corrugated aluminum pipe shall meet the requirements of
AASHTO M196 and Sections 125, 430 and 945 of the
Florida Department of Transportation Standard
Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction, latest
edition.
12. Measurement of the length of pipe shall be from the
center of the structure to the center of the structure.
l3.
The contractor shall submit to the engineer three (3)
certified copies of a chemical and sieve analysis of
the shellrock by a State of Florida certified lab when
constructing a shellrock base for roadway.

SANITARY SEWER SYSTEM NOTES
1.
All gravity sewers shall have a minimum depth of 48
inches to the invert unless otherwise noted.
2.
All sanitary sewer service lines shall be 6 inches in
diameter unless otherwise noted. The minimum slope
shall be 1/8 inch per foot and the maximum slope shall
be 1/4 inch per foot, except at connection to main.
3.
All sanitary sewer lines shall be vitrified clay pipe
in accordance with ASTM C200-65T and shall be installed
in accordance with ASTM C212-74.
4.
All gravity sewers shall be lamped by the contractor in
the presence of the Engineer and in the conformance
with the utility company standards.
Infiltration/exfiltration tests shall be conducted, if
required, in conformance with the requirements of the
local utility.
5.
Sewers crossing under water mains shall be laid to
provide a minimum vertical distance of 18 inches
between the invert of the upper pipe and the crown of
the lower pipe. Where this minimum separation cannot

WATER SYSTEM NOTES
l. All water mains to have a minimum of 30 inches of cover.
2. Fittings for ductile iron pipe shall be in accordance
with ANSI A21.10 (AWWA CllO) for ductile iron or gray
iron short body. Fitting shall be compatible with the
pipe and shall be designed for a working pressure of at
least.
3. The interior of all ductile iron pipe, including
fittings, shall be in accordance with ANSI A21.4 (AWWA
CI04) and shall have a cement lining and a bituminous
seal coat. The exterior of all ductile iron pipe shall
have a bituminous coating.
4. Gate valves shall be in accordance with AWWA C500 and
shall be cast iron bodies, double disc, resilient seat,
non-rising stem and opening counterclockwise. Gate
valves shall be designed for 150 psi working pressure.
5. Tapping sleeve and tapping valve shall be designed for
150 psi working pressure. The tapping sleeve shall be
cast iron mechanical joint type unless otherwise noted.
Tapping valves shall be a gate valve and fit a standard
tapping machine.
6. Fire hydrants shall be in conformance with AWWA C502 and
shall be of the breakaway traffic type. All working
parts shall be bronze. Hydrant shall be designed for
150 psi working pressure.
7. Contractor shall contact the Engineer a minimum of 48
hours in advance of connecting to an existing water main
to arrange for a representative of the utility company
to be present.
8. All water mains and fittings shall be subject to a
hydrostatic pressure and leakage test and
bacteriological clearance in conformance with local
regulatory agencies and utility company standards. The
hydrostatic pressure and leakage test shall be in
accordance with AwWA C600. The hydrostatic pressure
test shall be maintained at a pressure of 150 psi for a
period of not less than two (2) ho~rs.
9. Contractor shall install all pipe in accordance with the
manufacturers recommendations and shall not exceed the
manufacturers recommendations for deflections.
10. EMS magnetic markers shall be placed above all bends,
water and sewer services and changes in alignment and as
otherwise required by the local utility.
11. Contractor shall contact the Engineer a minimum of 48
hours in advance of all tests on the water system.
12. Sewers crossing under water mains shall be laid to
provide a minimum vertical distance of 18 inches between
the invert of the upper pipe and the crown of the lower
pipe. Where this minimum separation cannot be
maintained, the crossing shall be arranged so that the
sewer pipe joints and water main joints are equidistant
from the point of crossing with no less than 10 feet
between any two joints. Alternatively, the sewer main
may be placed in a sleeve or encased in concrete to
obtain the equivalent of the required 10-feet
separation.
