The City Site Development Division has discussed this issue with me and suggests the following which is normally . submitted along with landscape substitutions: 1. The names, addresses and phone' numbers of three different nurseries who you have contacted that were unable to supply the originally approved trees. 2. Substitute another species of tree at the original size and crown spread for the Black Olive (e.g. Mahogany, Live Oak, Wild Tamarind, Pigeon Plum). Contact me when you review the above suggestions. Scott Miller 5' ty Manager ~ Chris opher Cutro Planning & Zoning Director FROM: DATE: October 16, 1992 RE: Space Plus Landscaping Appeals The owners of Space Plus located at 2951 S.W. 14th Place have filed two appeals regarding landscaping at their open storage facility. AlIA Souul The first portion If he appeal is to waive the requirement for a hedge on the south s de and east side of the open storage area. The developer will constructing a chain link fence with slating on the eas ide'of the property. This fence abuts a parking area for the school and a practice burn tower for fire training. The south side abuts another industrial site on which a hedge is to be located, however, 150 feet of hedge material is missing. The second portion of the request is to reduce. the condition for oversized trees on the north side of the site. This condition was created by the City Commission and accepted by the developer. The developer now claims that the larger material is not available because of Hurricane Andrew. At its meeting of October 13th, the Planning and Development Board reviewed these requests and approved the request to delete the hedges and denied the request to reduce the tree size on the north side of the development. The Board also asked staff to work with the developer to plant hedge material with the trees on the north side and substitute native species such as live oak for the proposed black olive trees. This item has been scheduled for City Commission consideration on October 20, 1992. CC/jm Att. A:SPACPLUS.JM 'lhe (),ty oj ,.;. --tJ3oynton 'Beac/i ~c/1 1 "- Pfanning & Zo{}ning 'Department 100 'E. Boynton Beach Blvd. , Boynton Beach, Fl 33425-0310 Re: Space Plus Open Storage Parking Lot Landscaping of North Side with Black Olive Trees Dear Mr. Halihan; Enclosed is a print of the landscape plan for subject project. It may be noted that 12 foot high Black Olive Trees, with a 10 foot spread, are specified along the north side of the parking lot. The tree spacing is 20 feet. The contractor has advised us that it is not oossible to obtain these trees with a 10 foot soread since the v come fro~ Homestead. where the nurseries lost most of their trees during the recent hurricane. Considering the close spacing specified and the problem with obtaining the required material, would it be possible to uses trees with less that the 10 foot spread, but in no case would the spread be less than 6 feet. Your consideration of this request is appreciated. Yours truly, ~r~c;;q.~ cf Gerald B. Church, P.E. 4'.'~' . ." cc: William J.
