Re: Shoppes of Boynton parking Lot variance
Dear Chris:
On May 21, 1991, the City commission of Boynton Beach approved a
request for a variance for a driveway cut for the Shoppes of
Boynton. This variance was for an interior access aisle, having
direct access to a major egress driveway at less than the 100'
minimum as required by the City of Boynton Beach Code. One of
the conditions of this approval was for a site visit to be held
after six months (during peak tourist season) to ascertain if the
,driveway variance is functioning or causing a back up onto
Northwest 22nd Avenue.
Our site visit on Tuesday November 19, 1991 between 5:00 and
5:30PM was during peak use. There was no indication of any
backup. Traffic moved smoothly, even though the parking lot was
extremely full from the Boynton Ale House patrons.
I recommend that you notify the Manager and City commission that
a site inspection was held and that it is the Engineering Depart-
ments recommendation that the variance be made permanent as no
traffic problems are apparent.
Very truly yours,
WRS:kvc

Re: Shoppes of Boynton Pedestrian crossings & Driveways
Dear Vinnie:
At the city commission meeting of April 16, 1991, the subject of
modifying the existing parking lot standards to incorporate
thermo-plastic pedestrian striping in lieu of continuous concrete
sidewalks for ingress/egress driveway approaches was considered
by the City commission. Engineering department Memorandum 91056
as well as a letter from the VDM Group requesting the
modification and a draft of the modified parking lot
specifications indicating how this information would be
incorporated into the parking standards (should it be approved)
was available for the city commission. By unanimous 5-0 vote
this proposed amendment to the existing parking lot standards was
denied. We must therefore continue to' enforce the existing
parking lot specifications for continuous concrete sidewalks for
ingress/egress driveway approaches.
By copy of this letter I am requesting the city Manager notify
the VDM Group or so indicate if he wishes the engineering
department to correspond directly with VDM.
If you have any questions regarding this matter, we would be
pleased to review them with you at your convenience.
Very truly yours,
