RE:
Shoppes of Boynton Sign Program Amendment
Draper and Kramer have requested a modification of Sign Program
at the Shoppes of Boynton located at the northeast corner of
Congress Avenue and Gateway Boulevard (22nd Avenue).
The modification was to allow, in speCial cases, letters up to 48
inches high for stores in the Center.
At its meeting of August 10, 1993, the Planning and Development
Board reviewed this request, rather than allow 48 inch letters in
special cases, they felt the signage for the Ben Franklin Crafts
store as shown in the backup, should be added to the sign
program. The Board determined that the definition of special
case would be difficult to interpret and that because of its
size, (21,000 square feet), Ben Franklin was, in fact, a large
enough tenant to deserve special sign consideration in the
Center. The Board forwarded this solution to the City Commission
with a recommendation of approval.
This item has been scheduled for City Commission consideration of
August 17, 1993.

RE:
Shoppes of Boynton
Sign Program Modification
The firm, Draper and Kramer, has requested a change to the sign
program for the Shoppes of Boynton located at, the northwest corner
of Congress Avenue and Gateway Boulevard.
At the present time the sign program for this development allows
letters of 30 inches in height unless otherwise approved by the
Board and City conunission. The owners would like to have the
ability to increase the letter for large tenants up to 48 inches
when applicable.
We have attached an example of this which is the Ben Franklin store
sign. The word "Crafts" is 48" high while the remainder of the
sign meets the 30 inch limit.
Allowing some flexibility in the letter size is not a problem as
long as the overall sign size meets the Boynton Beach Code of
Ordinances, and, more importantly, that this is not interpreted to
allow all signs to have 48 inch letters for their entire length.
This item has been scheduled for Board review and consideration on
August 10, 1993.

Re: Shoppes of Boynton
Ben Franklin Signage
Dear Mr. Cutro:
We hereby make this request to the City of Boynton Beach to make a change in category
to the signage criteria at the Shoppes of Boynton.
The reason for said change is to provide proper signage for our new anchor tenant, Ben
Franklin Arts & Crafts. Ben Franklin has occupied a portion of our center which was
previously occupied by two smaller tenants. The tenant requests two letters of their sign to
be larger than allowed. The enclosed logo is consistent with their nationwide logo and
signage style.
We as owners feel this change will in no way harm or deter from the already established
aesthetics that have been installed to date. The hardship occurs in that the allowed lettering
pize for large anchor tenants is not allowed in the area leased, however was only intended
in areas such as the Lurias, Freddy's, or Cobb Theatre's high masonry walls; not stucco
fascias. We feel this was an oversight on everyone's behalf for not allowing flexibility for
larger users in such space that Ben Franklin will now occupy.
This large tenant is important to us as owners and the city. Therefore, please put this issue
on the agenda for the Planning & Zoning Board Meeting to be held on August 10, 1993.
Please find attached a check in the amount of $100.00 for the application fee for this minor
change.
