RE: BOYNTON COMMERCENTER
With respect to the above-referenced request for site plan
modification approval, please be advised of the Planning
Department's comments:
1. The proposed sign is to be located on the east side
of the 1900 building. Plans submitted for final
sign-off should reflect the desired location, as
the plans submitted for site plan review do not.
2. The existing sign code does not set forth provisions
regulating signs within Planned Districts. In the
past, the Technical Review Board has evaluated
such signs against sign restrictions for similar
districts. In this instance, the Technical Review
Board has reviewed this sign request against the
M-1, Light Industrial District, sign regulations.
This sign exceeds the size limitations in the
existing, M-1 sign regulations and further, would
not be permitted in the proposed sign code with respect
to location and size, unless approved by the Planning
and Zoning Board, Community Appearance Board and City
Commission, as Planned District signs are ultimately
subject to their approval.
The applicant's interest in this sign is for visibility
from I-95. As a point of information, the proposed,
M-1 sign regulations have a special provision to
permit additional flat signs for lots fronting on
I-95. The proposed code clarifies this by stating
that fronting means that the building entrance
faces I-95, that no garage doors can be visible
from the Interstate and that the area between the
use and the Interstate must be landscaped as if it
was fronting on a street.
