RE. Shoppes of Woolbright (Home Depot)
MMSP 00-019
Dear Ms. Galav,
Pursuant to your letter of April 24, 2000, please find enclosed 4 copies of the revised Landscape Plan,
dated May 23, 2000, which address staff comments by Mr Hallahan in a Memo dated April 18,
2000 I have summarized below the steps we have taken to address each of these comments.
Comment 1 The following general note has been added to the plan "INSPECT AND REPAIR
IRRIGATION SYSTEM TO PROVIDE ADEQUATE WATER TO ALL LANDSCAPING"
Comment 2 & 3 The Liriope groundcover has been replaced with a dwarf form of Bougainvillea to
provide a vivid display of colorful flowers in the winter and sporadic blooming throughout the year
Yellow Trumpet trees and Washington Palms will be located adjacent to these medians
Comment 4 The Shellings Holly has been replaced with a dwarf form of Bougainvillea to provide a
vivid display of colorful flowers in the winter and sporadic blooming throughout the year The
Yellow Trumpet trees in the existing medians along the front of the store will remain or be relocated
to the new islands at the front of the store as noted on the plan Bollards, as suggested, have not
effectively prevented trampling of plant material at other Home Depot's and have damaged
automobiles that hit them, exposing Home Depot to liability claims. Therefore, I request that bollards
not be required at this time. Bougainvillea has been chosen for this area because of its characteristics
as a highly durable and resilient plant in addition to its ornamental features
Comment 5 No response needed
Comment 6 Some temporary structures have been placed outside the building during the
remodeling. These will be removed when the store remodeling is complete at the end of August. The
materials stored outside the building will be screened or removed.
Comment 7 The chain link fence is temporary and will be removed when the store remodeling is
completed at the end of August.
01 Letler 03.22.00 ',\Admin\980\980766\980766 Letle' To Lusia Galav 5 23_2000ADoc
Comment 8 The parking lot for the Home Depot will be resealed and re-striped at the completion of
remodeling and construction phases. Construction of the Tool Rental Center and new canopy are
scheduled to be completed by early November
Additional notes have been added to the landscape plan per comments by other departments. Please
call me at (770) 303-1033 if you need any additional information Thank you for your assistance

Landscape condItIOns per Plannmg and Development Board
From.
Subject.
Date
AprIl 18, 2000
I have revIewed the above comment by the P & Z board members pertammg to enhancmg the
eXIstmg landscapmg. The followmg recommendatIOns are based upon my field mspectIOn of the
sIte and knowledge of the eXIstmg landscape materIals, and ImgatIOn system.
1 The entIre eXIstmg IrrIgatIOn system throughout sIte should be mspected and repaIred as
needed to provIde adequate water to the landscapmg. The eXIstmg ImgatIOn system must be
operatlonal prIor to relocatmg or mstallmg new landscape materIals There have been
operatIOnal problems wIth the ImgatIOn system m the recent past.
2 The four (4) landscape medIans adjacent to the Burger Kmg / DISCOunt Auto Parts sites
should be landscaped WIth colorful groundcover plants, colorful bushes, and colorful trees- to
make an entrance feature mto the SIte
3 The four (4) landscape medIans adjacent to the DISCOunt Auto Parts / Dunkm Donuts SItes
should be landscaped wIth colorful groundcover plants, colorful bushes, and colorful trees- to
make an entrance feature mto the SIte
4 The SIX (6) landscape medIans adjacent to the frontage of the SIte structures (proposed lumber
canopy, proposed tool rental, Home Depot, Garden Center) should be landscaped wIth
colorful groundcover plants, colorful bushes, and colorful trees-to hIghlIght the front of the
SIte where all of the customers must pass to enter the structures. These medIans should be
enCIrcled WIth decoratlve raIsed bollards to protect the landscape from customers walkmg
through the medIans.
5 The other comments on the plans for replacmg eXIstmg dead / mIssmg landscape matenals
WIll help to enhance the SIte.
Non-Landscaoe Enhancements to the Site.
6 The storage of materIals outSIde the structures along the entIre penmeter of the SIte creates a
VIsually unattractlve SIte. The matenals should be placed mSIde the bUIldmgs / structures out
of sIght of the vlSltmg publIc
7 The cham lmk fence parkmg lot storage area located m the Southwest comer ofthe SIte
should have decoratlve slats placed through the fencmg.
8 The parkmg lot for the entIre SIte could be resealed and re-strIped as an enhancement.
Please let me know If I can be of further assIstance

Dear Mr Rumpf,
I am writing to confirm our conversation Thursday, April 20 2000 wit" regard to the issue of
temporary replacement parking which is as follows.
The City of Boynton Beach does not, at this time, require Home Depot to provide any type
of temporary repiacement parking (neither public, nor employee only parking) while the
store IS being renovated
2 It is the responsibility for Home Depot to provide adequate parking for its customers and
employees.
It would be C1ppreciated, Mr Rumpf, that you provide me with a written confirmation of this letter as
soon as possible to eliminate the possibility of misunderstandings or incorrect assumptions on my
part. It you have any questions, please do not hesi~ate to contact me at (770) 303-1033 Thank you

Temporary Replacement Parking Field
Dear 1\.fr. Rumpf:
I'm wntlng to you as per the request of the project archItect, Chnstopher Sandoval, who has been
lnterfaclng \\'lth Ken Hall of your Englneenng Department dUrIng the past few weeks wIth regard to
tills temporary replacement parking 1ssue.
It IS our understandmg that the CIty of Boynton Beach 'Will allow us to construct temporary
replacement parklng for use by Home Depot employees only Th1s type of restncted parklng would
elurunate the need to prov1de C1ty Code publIc accessible constructed parklng, wh1ch would be
expens1ve to construct and still have to be completely demolIshed and discarded at the end of four
months. ThIS parklng field would be shellrock surfaced and s1gnage proVIded would clearly restnct
tills area as follows, "Parklng for Home Depot Employees Only - All Others will Be Towed Away -
At Owners Expense, Ete." In adchoon, the quanoty of temporary replacement parking spaces 'Will
be equal to or greater than whIch 1S chsplaced.
\Xbile Ken was lnvesogaong tills possible altemaove to a hard - surface, temporary field, we chd
subrrut dra\vlngs to the Builchng Dept. that met speClfied City standards (asphalt hard surface, stop
s1gns and wheel stops, palnt str1plng), but \\'lth some mochficaoons (slngle Str1plng 10 lIeu of double,
slope dram age to ey...!.tmg catch basms). As you can see, we have been trymg to saosfy planmng,
zomng and engmeenng department requIrements as requested. \'V'e are very glad that your
department IS not requmng the construcoon of temporary pubhc accessible parklng, ete.

Minor Site Plan Modification
Dear Ms. Galav,
Please find attached the Site Plan for the Home Depot at the Shoppes of Woolbright and supporting
documents including the architectural floor plan and elevations. This submittal corresponds to the
Master Plan revisions you are currently reviewing.
The proposed modifications include the addition of a 2,093 sf Tool Rental Facility, fenced storage
area and a Canopy over the contractor pick-up area at the south end of the store These
modifications are the second phase of a complete remodeling of the store to increase operating
efficiency and customer safety while responding to consumer demand
The Tool Rental Center concept has been tested across the country and The Home Depot is pleased
to introduce it to the City of Boynton Beach
Sincerely,
GREENBERG FARROW ARCHITECTURE ENGINEERING DEVELOPMENT
