Dear Mr. Rumpf, A couple of months ago, Jack Farley, the then president and myself discussed with your assistants the requirements for transfering the existing security gate fran the South entrance of the Crossings to the North entrance.. The request is being made for security reasons. It would allow us to station the security guard at the open South entrance where the intrusion of criminal elements is more prevalent than at the North entrance The security gate which originally was approved under Pennit No. 97-1052 on September 11, 1997 and completed October 21, 1997, would be installed on the North entrance as is and wi th the same distance fran the street. Your assistants stated that there would not be any problem as lon~ as the gate and the distance fran the street were the same. They asked us to submit the following exhibits: EXHIBIT 1: 4 enlarged copies of the Master Plan of The Crossings of Boynton Beach PUD. EXlITBIT 2: 4 copies of a Special Purpose Survey as revised fran May 13, 1996 by O'Brien, Suiter & O'Brien, Inc. licensed engineers, surveyors & plarmers, showing the transfer of the security gate fran the South entrance to the North entrance and the exact distance of the gate from the street. Im- "":T~' P3:- ,-@. .0 May 9 2001 MI4::.P ~J-o,Lj RE Security Gates and Emergency Access To Whom It May Concern f (Z.. \ C. --r- h,J ~ ,J Boynton Beach Fire Rescue continues to maintain the position that security gates are potentially detrimental to fire and rescue operations The proliferation of security gated communities has resulted in many problems for responding emergency apparatus trying to gain entry The minimum performance for all security gates shall be as follows 1 All security/entrance gates must have an electronic key number pad 2 The keypad will allow entrance by the simple act of pushing four (4) or five (5) buttons 3 All gates must have a security entry code approved in advance by the Fire Marshal 4 Gates may be operable by telephone from our dispatch office A phone call from our dispatchers will open the gate and a second call will be required to close the gate 5 In case of power failure the gate shall open automatically and remain open 6 An exception will be where a 24-hour security guard is stationed at the gate 7 A back-up device such as an authorized security box or key SWitch is required to operate the gate in the event the number pad entry does not work 8 A key box shall be installed for such areas or buildings when the Fire Marshal determines that access is necessary for all life-saving or fire-fighting purposes The type and location of the key box shall be approved by the Fire Marshal and shall contain . Keys to locked points of egress whether in common areas or on the Interior or exterior of such buildings . Keys to locked mechanical equipment rooms . Keys to locked electrical rooms, .
