REPORT
As per your request, on October 10, 2()07 at approximately 3:00 P.M. I met with you (Dave
Knight) at the Greentree Plaza in Boynton Beach, Florida.
Th~ purpose of the meeting was to discuss specifications for the trimming of (5) Black Olive
trees growing along the Eastside of Knuth Road, between the sidewalk and the parking lot of
Gteenttee Plaza.
The diameter ofllie trees trom south to north are IS" - 16" - IS>> - 20.5" and 14". The area
between the sidewalk: and parking lot is very narrow for this size tree, resulting in heaved asphalt
in tile parking lot and tilted sidewalk segments. The trees had many broken and fractured branch
ends, the results of previous wind storms. They have very thick canopies from numerous suckers
(srrwll branches) growing along the scaffold limbs.
i recommend crown restoration Dru.nin~ due to the restricted root zone as follows:
Restoration Pruning" Restoration pruning for trees previously hatracked. damaged from
sl.OnfiS or having other damages that have broken branches or been a cause for sprouting
growth on limbs. Pruning should reduce number of sprouts on stub branches, remove
stubs of branches where natural growth branches will then dominate and :fill canopy
area and thin the limbs tbrough-out canopy. Main concerns are to reduce nwnber of
multiple leaders along branches and stubbed branch ends and clean cut any broken
limbs or stubs to laterals or parent limbs. Work should result in better balanced canopy
wid future growth of remaining limbs that will fill in and become a more natural growth
pattern of tree species. Branches removed shail be 21! diameter 61' larger.
I also reoommend not to allow these trees to get much taller or wider. The purpose being to try
and rnaintsin a root crown balance to compensate for the restricted root area.
