Congress Avenue. We have complied with the review comments outlined in your letter dated October 3, 2006 and from our subsequent meetings to review the signage and respectfully submit the final plans for your approval. The scope of work can be outlined as follows: The Image Upgrade is a corporate requirement of all KFC franchisees to bring their stores up to the current KFC corporate image standards every 10 -12 years. This store was constructed in 1991 and is overdue for an Image Upgrade. The upgrade is limited to the exterior of the building and includes the following work: 1. The continuous red illuminated awnings will be replaced with individual red and white striped awnings over the windows and solid red awnings over the doors. The new awnings will not be illuminated but will have accent spot lighting (See plans) 2. In keeping with the new image of the Oakwood Square Shopping Center the new KFC exterior will have the walls and new stucco bands painted to match the colors of the center. (See plans). 3. The illuminated red and white cupola tower cap will be replaced with a non illuminated cupola tower cap to match the color of the Oakwood Plaza roofing tile. 4. The existing signage will be replaced with new signage. The new signage complies with the city's sign codes. (See plans for square footage breakdown). Please call me if you have any questions. The City of Boynton Beach, sign ordinance does not allow stand-alone "logos", or logos to occupy more than 20% of any individual signage area. The Oakwood Square Shopping Center has just undergone a complete renovation. The only red in the center is the signage. As such, when the various outparcels request modification/upgrades, they will be required to conform to the design, materials and color palette of the center. With that understanding, the City will not allow the Cupola Tower Cap to be red & white striped, so it must be painted the same color as the body of the building. Any other architectural features, including the parapet cap should match the building, no blue or red. The entire cupola tower cannot be illuminated. If the tower were of solid construction, no translucent material that allows the tower to glow, an opening like in a bell tower would be allowed, which could have soft/muted accent lighting of just that opening. The City will not allow the 14" KFC Light band, nor illuminated awnings of any kind. Again, this would be contrary to the recent renovation of the shopping center. Up lighting and decorative wall mounted lighting fixtures would be acceptable. Please understand that we appreciate the fact that KFC is interested in upgrading the property. Weare extremely interested in ensuring that the final product is in keeping with the image created in the recent Oakwood Square Shopping Center. Should you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
