SCOPE OF WORK
INSTALLATION OF A FIRE ALARM SYSTEM IN ACCORDANCE WITH NFPA 72, STATE, AND
LOCALLY ADOPTED CODES AND ORDINANCES.
APPLICABLE CODES
BASIC CONSTRUCTION AND DESIGN REQUIREMENTS AND CODE COMPLIANCE.
STATE CODE OF REGULATIONS
THE INSTALLATION OF THE FIRE ALARM SYSTEM SHALL COMPLY WITH THE CURRENT
STATE, COUNTY, LOCAL, MUNICIPAL AHJ ADOPTED CODES OR ORDINANCES THAT ARE IN
WRITTEN FORM.
FLORIDA BUILDING CODE AND FLORIDA FIRE PREVENTION CODE
THE INSTALLATION OF THE FIRE ALARM EQUIPMENT SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH
NFPA 1 - NFPA 72 - NFPA 101.
ANY REQUIRED CORRECTIONS OR DISAPPROVALS SHALL BE IN WRITING WITH ADOPTED
CODE, ORDINANCE OR OTHER REFERENCED LANGUAGE PER THE AHJ.
• ALARM INSTALLER INFORMATION SHALL BE PROVIDED PRIOR TO START OF
INSTALLATION OR WHEN CONTRACTED FOR INSTALLATION.
• THE FIRE ALARM INSTALLER IN CHARGE OF THIS PROJECT SHALL BE CERTIFIED
AND LICENSED BY THE STATE OF FLORIDA AND/OR LOCAL REQUIREMENTS. PROOF
OF SUCH CERTIFICATION SHALL BE ON THE INSTALLER AT ALL TIMES AND SHALL
BE PROVIDED UPON REQUEST BY THE AHJ.
• INSTALLER IN CHARGE SHALL COORDINATE ALL WORK WITH THE OWNER/PROPERTY
MANAGER AND ALL OTHER TRADES.
• CONSULT WITH LOCAL AHJ, OWNER AND/OR OTHER TRADES FOR EXACT LOCATION
OF THE FIRE CONTROL PANEL AND ALL DEVICES PRIOR TO INSTALLATION.
• THE EQUIPMENT AND MATERIAL SHALL BE STATE OF FLORIDA FIRE MARSHAL LISTED
AND APPROVED FOR USE AS SET FORTH BY NFPA 72 AND NRTL STANDARDS.
• THE FIRE ALARM CONTRACTOR SERVICE, MAINTENANCE, TESTING AND MONITORING
CONTRACTS SHALL BE SUBMITTED TO THE AHJ PRIOR TO CONDUCTING
ACCEPTANCE TEST.
• THE FIRE ALARM SERVICE, MAINTENANCE, TESTING AND MONITORING PROVIDER
SHALL BE CENTRAL STATION SERVICE CERTIFIED BY A NRTL. PROOF OF
CERTIFICATION SHALL BE SUBMITTED TO THE AHJ PRIOR TO CONDUCTING
ACCEPTANCE TEST.
SYSTEM INSTALLATION
• THE STATE OF FLORIDA LICENSED ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE A 120
VAC 15 OR 20 AMP DEDICATED CIRCUIT TO THE LOCATION OF THE FACP / FCPS
AND OTHER PANELS REQUIRING PRIMARY POWER.
• THE CIRCUIT SHALL BE MECHANICALLY PROTECTED WITH A LISTED -BREAKER
LOCK -OUT DEVICE THAT MEETS OSHA 1910.147. (EXAMPLE DEVICE - MASTER
LOCK 4938) EXCEPTION: BREAKER LOCATED WITHIN LOCKED CABINET OR ROOM
THAT IS ACCESSIBLE TO AUTHORIZED PERSONNEL ONLY.
• THE MULTIPLE PANEL ARRANGEMENT IN A SINGLE LOCATION SHALL REQUIRE
JUNCTION BOXES FOR 120 VAC CIRCUIT SPLICES. MULTIPLE CONDUCTORS UNDER
SINGLE TERMINALS OR WIRE SPLICED WITHIN CONTROL PANEL EQUIPMENT WILL
NOT BE ALLOWED.
• THE DEDICATED 120 VAC BRANCH CIRCUIT SHALL BE CLEARLY IDENTIFIED AND
LABELED "FIRE ALARM CIRCUIT" IN RED.
• LOCATION OF THE CIRCUIT BREAKER CONNECTED TO EACH CONTROL PANEL SHALL
BE LABELED WITHIN EACH CONTROL PANEL.
• POWER LIMITED WIRING SHALL BE SEPARATED FROM NON -POWER LIMITED WIRING
AND CLASS 1 CIRCUITS A MINIMUM OF .25 INCHES OR AS INSTRUCTED BY THE
CONTROL PANEL MANUFACTURER.
• ALL CIRCUITS WILL BE IDENTIFIED AT JUNCTIONS AND AT TERMINATION BY MEANS
OF A DURABLE PERMANENT AND VISIBLE LABEL.
• ALL WIRING AND CABLING METHODS SHALL COMPLY WITH NATIONAL ELECTRIC ,CODE
70 ARTICLE 760.
• NO "T" TAPPING OF FIELD WIRINGS IS ALLOWED ON SUPERVISED 'CIRCUITS,
EXCEPTION: SLC/DATA CIRCUITS PER MANUFACTURERS SPECIFICATIONS.
RETRANSMISSION OF SIGNALS
• THE FIRE ALARM SYSTEM SHALL BE EQUIPPED WITH TWO AHJ ACCEPTABLE, NRTL
CENTRAL STATION LISTED MEANS OF TRANSMISSION OF ALL SIGNALS TO AN AHJ
ACCEPTABLE, NRTL LISTED CENTRAL MONITORING STATION.
• THE MEANS OF TRANSMISSIONS SHALL BE PROGRAMMED TO INITIATE AND
COMPLETE A TEST SIGNAL EVERY 24 HOURS MINIMUM. EACH PATH CAN ALTERNATE
24 HOUR PERIODS AS LONG AS THE CENTRAL STATION RECEIVES A SIGNAL EVERY
24 HOURS.
• A LOCAL TROUBLE SHALL SOUND AND BE LOCATED SUCH THAT IT CAN BE HEARD
WITHIN OCCUPIABLE SPACE IF ONE OF THE MEANS OF TRANSMISSION IS
COMPROMISED OR FAILS ON A SIGNAL TRANSMISSION ATTEMPT.
• THE PROTECTED PROPERTY CONTACT LIST WITH NAMES AND CALL NUMBERS OF AT
LEAT THREE INDIVIDUALS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE PROTECTED PROPERTY SHALL BE

2. RECALL ELEVATOR TO THE ALTERNATE LEVEL (1ST FLOOR) UPON
ACTIVATION OF ELEVATOR ALARM CIRCUIT ON THE GROUND LEVEL.
D. TRANSMIT AN AUDIBLE AND VISUAL ALARM SIGNAL TO FLOOR OF ACTIVATION,

SCOPE OF WORK
INSTALLATION OF A FIRE ALARM SYSTEM IN ACCORDANCE WITH NFPA 72, STATE, AND
LOCALLY ADOPTED CODES AND ORDINANCES.
APPLICABLE CODES
BASIC CONSTRUCTION AND DESIGN REQUIREMENTS AND CODE COMPLIANCE.
STATE CODE OF REGULATIONS
THE INSTALLATION OF THE FIRE ALARM SYSTEM SHALL COMPLY WITH THE CURRENT
STATE, COUNTY, LOCAL, MUNICIPAL AHJ ADOPTED CODES OR ORDINANCES THAT ARE IN
WRITTEN FORM.
FLORIDA BUILDING CODE AND FLORIDA FIRE PREY NTION CODE
THE INSTALLATION OF THE FIRE ALARM EQUIPMENT SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH
NFPA 1 - NFPA 72 - NFPA 101.
ANY REQUIRED CORRECTIONS OR DISAPPROVALS SHALL BE IN WRITING WITH ADOPTED
CODE, ORDINANCE OR OTHER REFERENCED LANGUAGE PER THE AHJ.
• ALARM INSTALLER INFORMATION SHALL BE PROVIDED PRIOR TO START OF
INSTALLATION OR WHEN CONTRACTED FOR INSTALLATION.
• THE FIRE ALARM INSTALLER IN CHARGE OF THIS PROJECT SHALL BE CERTIFIED
AND LICENSED BY THE STATE OF FLORIDA AND/OR LOCAL REQUIREMENTS. PROOF
OF SUCH CERTIFICATION SHALL BE ON THE INSTALLER AT ALL TIMES AND SHALL
BE PROVIDED UPON REQUEST BY THE AHJ.
• INSTALLER IN CHARGE SHALL COORDINATE ALL WORK WITH THE OWNER/PROPERTY
MANAGER AND ALL OTHER TRADES.
• CONSULT WITH LOCAL AHJ, OWNER AND/OR OTHER TRADES FOR EXACT LOCATION
OF THE FIRE CONTROL PANEL AND ALL DEVICES PRIOR TO INSTALLATION.
• THE EQUIPMENT AND MATERIAL SHALL BE STATE OF FLORIDA FIRE MARSHAL LISTED
AND APPROVED FOR USE AS SET FORTH BY NFPA 72 AND NRTL STANDARDS.
• THE FIRE ALARM CONTRACTOR SERVICE, MAINTENANCE, TESTING AND MONITORING
CONTRACTS SHALL BE SUBMITTED TO THE AHJ PRIOR TO CONDUCTING
ACCEPTANCE TEST.
• THE FIRE ALARM SERVICE, MAINTENANCE, TESTING AND MONITORING PROVIDER
SHALL BE CENTRAL STATION SERVICE CERTIFIED BY A NRTL. PROOF OF
CERTIFICATION SHALL BE SUBMITTED TO THE AHJ PRIOR TO CONDUCTING
ACCEPTANCE TEST.
SYSTEM INSTALLATION
• THE STATE OF FLORIDA LICENSED ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE A 120
VAC 15 OR 20 AMP DEDICATED CIRCUIT TO THE LOCATION OF THE FACP / FCPS
AND OTHER PANELS REQUIRING PRIMARY POWER.
• THE CIRCUIT SHALL BE MECHANICALLY PROTECTED WITH A LISTED -BREAKER
LOCK -OUT DEVICE THAT MEETS OSHA 1910.147. (EXAMPLE DEVICE - MASTER
LOCK 4938) EXCEPTION: BREAKER LOCATED WITHIN LOCKED CABINET OR ROOM
THAT IS ACCESSIBLE TO AUTHORIZED PERSONNEL ONLY.
• THE MULTIPLE PANEL ARRANGEMENT IN A SINGLE LOCATION SHALL REQUIRE
JUNCTION BOXES FOR 120 VAC CIRCUIT SPLICES. MULTIPLE CONDUCTORS UNDER
SINGLE TERMINALS OR WIRE SPLICED WITHIN CONTROL PANEL EQUIPMENT WILL
NOT BE ALLOWED.
• THE DEDICATED 120 VAC BRANCH CIRCUIT SHALL BE CLEARLY IDENTIFIED AND
LABELED "FIRE ALARM CIRCUIT" IN RED.
• LOCATION OF THE CIRCUIT BREAKER CONNECTED TO EACH CONTROL PANEL SHALL
BE LABELED WITHIN EACH CONTROL PANEL.
• POWER LIMITED WIRING SHALL BE SEPARATED FROM NON -POWER LIMITED WIRING
AND CLASS 1 CIRCUITS A MINIMUM OF .25 INCHES OR AS INSTRUCTED BY THE
CONTROL PANEL MANUFACTURER.
• ALL CIRCUITS WILL BE IDENTIFIED AT JUNCTIONS AND AT TERMINATION BY MEANS
OF A DURABLE PERMANENT AND VISIBLE LABEL.
• ALL WIRING AND CABLING METHODS SHALL COMPLY WITH NATIONAL ELECTRIC CODE`
70 ARTICLE 760.
• NO "T" TAPPING OF FIELD WIRINGS IS ALLOWED ON SUPERVISED CIRCUITS,
EXCEPTION: SLC/DATA CIRCUITS PER MANUFACTURERS SPECIFICATIONS.
RETRANSMISSION OF SIGNALS
• THE FIRE ALARM SYSTEM SHALL BE EQUIPPED WITH TWO AHJ ACCEPTABLE, NRTL
CENTRAL STATION LISTED MEANS OF TRANSMISSION OF ALL SIGNALS TO AN AHJ
ACCEPTABLE, NRTL LISTED CENTRAL MONITORING STATION.
• THE MEANS OF TRANSMISSIONS SHALL BE PROGRAMMED TO INITIATE AND
COMPLETE A TEST SIGNAL EVERY 24 HOURS MINIMUM. EACH PATH CAN ALTERNATE
24 HOUR PERIODS AS LONG AS THE CENTRAL STATION RECEIVES A SIGNAL EVERY
24 HOURS.
• A LOCAL TROUBLE SHALL SOUND AND BE LOCATED SUCH THAT IT CAN BE HEARD
WITHIN OCCUPIABLE SPACE IF ONE OF THE MEANS OF TRANSMISSION IS
COMPROMISED OR FAILS ON A SIGNAL TRANSMISSION ATTEMPT.
• THE PROTECTED PROPERTY CONTACT LIST WITH NAMES AND CALL NUMBERS OF AT
LEAT THREE INDIVIDUALS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE PROTECTED PROPERTY SHALL BE
PROVIDED TO THE AHJ PRIOR TO CONDUCTING ACCEPTANCE TEST.
• THE CENTRAL MONITORING STATION NAME, TELEPHONE NUMBER(S), ADDRESS AND
ACCOUNT NUMBER FOR THE FACP SHALL BE LABELED BY MEANS OF A DURABLE
PERMANENT METHOD WITHIN THE FACP.

• SHALL RELEASE ALL ELCTRIC DOOR LOCKS.
• SHALL DISPLAY THE ALARM SIGNAL AT THE FACP AND REMOTE ANNUNCIATOR (IF
APPLICABLE), ACTIVATE ALARM NOTIFICATION APPLIANCES AS REQUIRED AND INITIATE
TRANSMISSION OF SIGNAL TO CENTRAL STATION FOR INITIATING CENTRAL STATION
SERVICE RESPONSE IN ACCORDANCE WITH NFPA 72 - 2010 EDITION - CHAPTER
8/SECTION 8.2.7.
DUCT SMOKE DETECTOR
• SHALL BE INSTALLED IN ACCORDANCE WITH NFPA 72 - 2010 EDITION - CHAPTER
5/SECTIONS 5.7.4 AND 5.14.
• SHALL SHUT DOWN THE HVAC UNIT, AND ALL OTHER HVAC UNITS SERVING THE
SAME COMPARTMENT UPON DETECTOR ACTIVATION VIA AN APPROVED METHOD.

• SHALL DISPLAY THE SUPERVISORY SIGNAL (WITH AHJ APPROVAL) AT THE FACP
AND REMOTE ANNUNCIATOR (IF APPLICABLE), AND INITIATE TRANSMISSION OF
SIGNAL TO CENTRAL STATION FOR INITIATING CENTRAL STATION SERVICE RESPONSE

NOT VISIBLE FROM THE FLOOR LEVEL OR ABOVE 10 FEET THE FINISHED FLOOR
FOR THE PURPOSE OF IDENTIFYING DETECTORS THAT HAVE ACTIVATED, NFPA 2 -
2007 EDITION CHAPTER 5 / SECTION 5.14.5.8.
• DUCT SMOKE DETECTORS ARE NOT LISTED LIFE -SAFETY DEVICES, PROPER
SHUTDOWN MAY NOT BE POSSIBLE DUE TO IMPROPER MAINTENANCE AND
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS.

• THE DEDICATED 120 VAC CIRCUIT SHALL BE PAINTED RED AND LABELED "FIRE
ALARM CIRCUIT" AND PROVIDED WITH MECHANICAL PROTECTION WHEN NOT
LOCATED WITHIN AN INACCESSIBLE SPACE BY THE GENERAL PUBLIC.
• LOCATION OF THE AC CIRCUIT BREAKER IS TO BE LABELED ON THE INTERIOR
OF THE FACP DOOR.
• BATTERY CALCULATION MAY REFLECT MORE DEVICES FOR FUTURE ADDITIONS
AND LABELED 0 THE FACP DOOR.
• BATTERIES ARE TO BE LABELED WITH THE MONTH AND YEAR OF INSTALLATION.
• BATTERIES ARE TO BE LABELED WITH THE DATE OF MANUFACTURE.
• A FRAMED DURABLE SIGN ABOVE THE FACP INDICATING LOCATION OF THE TEST
AND RECORD DOCUMENTS SHALL BE PROVIDED.
• MINIMUM 8"x10" SIGN STATING "FACP INSIDE" SHALL BE PLACED ON DOORS
THAT CONTAIN THE FACP.
FIRE ALARM SYSTEM SEQUENCE OF OPERATION:
AUTOMATIC RESPONSE FUNCTION SHALL BE INITIATED ONLY BY THE FIRST FIRE ALARM
RECEIVED. ADDITIONAL ALARM SHALL BE RECEIVED, ANNUNCIATED AND SHALL INITIATE
AUTOMATIC RESPONSE FUNCTIONS ASSOCIATED EXCLUSIVELY WITH SUBSEQUENT ALARM.
THE ACTUATION OF THE FIRE ALARM INITIATING DEVICE SHALL AUTOMATICALLY INITIATE
THE FUNCTIONS DETAILED IW:
ALL FIRE ALARMS REPORT/kETRANSMIT SIGNAL TO FIRE DEPT. VIA CENTRAL STATION
SERVICE.
1. ACTIVATION OF MANUAL FIRE ALARM STATIONS SHALL INITIATE THE FOLLOWING
FUNCTIONS:
A. INDICATE THE LOCATION OF THE DEVICE ON THE CONTROL PANEL AND ON
THE REMOTE ANNUNCIATOR (IF APPLICABLE).
B. CAUSE AN AUDIBLE SIGNAL AT THE CONTROL PANEL. (ALARM)
C. TRANSMIT AN AUDIBLE AND VISUAL ALARM SIGNAL TO FLOOR OF ACTIVATION,
THE FLOOR ABOVE, THE FLOOR BELOW AND THE GROUND FLOOR.
2. ACTIVATION OF SMOKE DETECTORS OR HEAT DETECTORS SHALL INITIATE THE
FOLLOWING:
A. INDICATE THE LOCATION OF THE DEVICE ON THE CONTROL PANEL AND ON THE
REMOTE ANNUNCIATOR (IF APPLICABLE).
B. CAUSE AN AUDIBLE SIGNAL AT THE CONTROL PANEL (ALARM.
C. TRANSMIT AN AUDIBLE AND VISUAL ALARM SIGNAL TO FLOOR OF ACTIVATION,
THE FLOOR ABOVE, THE FLOOR BELOW AND THE GROUND FLOOR.
3. ACTIVATION OF SMOKE/HEAT DETECTORS (ELEVATOR), SHALL INDICATE THE
FOLLOWING:
A. INDICATE THE LOCATION OF THE DEVICE ON THE CONTROL PANEL.
B. CAUSE AN AUDIBLE SIGNAL AT THE CONTROL PANEL (ALARM)
C. INITIATE THE AUTOMATIC RECALL OPERATION OF ELEVATOR AS FOLLOWS:
1. RECALL ELEVATOR TO THE GROUND FLOOR UPON ACTIVATION OF ANY
ELEVATORS ALARM INITIATING CIRCUIT ON ANY FLOOR OTHER THAN THE
GROUND FLOOR.
2. RECALL ELEVATOR TO THE ALTERNATE LEVEL (1ST FLOOR) UPON
ACTIVATION OF ELEVATOR ALARM CIRCUIT ON THE GROUND LEVEL.
D. TRANSMIT AN AUDIBLE AND VISUAL ALARM SIGNAL TO FLOOR OF ACTIVATION,
THE FLOOR ABOVE, THE FLOOR BELOW AND THE GROUND FLOOR.
3. ACTIVATION OF SMOKE DETECTOR IN THE ELEVATOR MACHINE/EQUIPMENT ROOM
SHALL RETURN THE ELEVATOR CAR TO GROUND LEVEL AND ILLUMINATE THE
ELEVATOR WARNING LIGHT.
F. ACTIVATION OF HEAT DETECTOR IN THE ELEVATOR MACHINE ROOM/SHAFT SHALL
INITIATE THE ELEVATOR SHUNT TRIP FUNCTION.
