3 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA,
4 AMENDING THE FISCAL YEAR 2023-2024 GENERAL FUND BUDGET
5 FOR THE INCREASE TO THE LEGAL DEPARTMENT (1910);
6 APPROVING THE ADDITION OF THE DEPUTY CITY ATTORNEY AND
7 SENIOR LEGAL ASSISTANT POSITIONS; AND PROVIDING FOR AN
8 EFFECTIVE DATE.

11 WHEREAS, the Fiscal Year 2023 -24 Budget was adopted on September 27, 2023; and
12 WHEREAS, a budget amendment is required to increase the General Fund's Legal
13 Department budget with the creation of an in-house Legal Department, which requires an
14 increase in the amount of $385,256; and
15 WHEREAS, in order to effectively handle the City's legal matters with an in-house Legal
16 Department, the additional positions of the Deputy City Attorney and Senior Legal Assistant
17 will also need approval; and
18 WHEREAS, the General Fund appropriations will be amended from $118,561,146 to
19 $118,946,402; due to the amended Legal Department budget reflecting increased
20 appropriations from $686,478 to $1,071,734.
21 WHEREAS, accordingly, staff is requesting Commission approval to amend the Fiscal
22 Year 2023-24 budget as noted specifically on Exhibit A.
23 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
24 BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA:
25 Section 1. The foregoing "Whereas" clauses are hereby ratified and confirmed as
26 being true and correct and are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution upon adoption
27 hereof.
28 Section 2. The City Commission hereby approves amending the Fiscal Year 2023-

29 2024 Budget for the increase to the Legal Department (1910) accounts, which will adjust
30 budgeted appropriations, as noted on Exhibit "A," which Exhibit is attached hereto and
31 incorporated herein by reference.
32 Section 3. The City Commission hereby approves the addition of the positions to
33 the Legal Department, including the Deputy City Attorney and the Senior Legal Assistant.
34 Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon passage.
35 PASSED AND ADOPTED this 7th day of November, 2023.
