The duties and responsibilities of the positions of Golf Course Head Professional, First Assistant Professional and Assistant Golf Professional are hereby adopted and shall be in accordance with the job descriptions attached hereto and made a part hereof. Section 2. %hat the position of Head Professional will be a grade 19, the First Assistant Professional will be grade 17, and the Assistant Golf Professional will be grade 15 and shall become a part of the City's pay plan. CiTY OF BOY~fON BF~ACH A~TEST: City ~egk COP~ORATE SEAL HEAD PROFESSIONAL (GOLF COURSE) NATURE OF WORK This is .a professional position as described by the P.G.A. Work~ is performed under the general supervision of the Golf Course Manager. Duties are varied requiring considerable initiative, independent action and sound judgement. Duties include'collecting necessary fees. Enrolling and renewing memberships. Assist in preparing budgets as required by the Golf Course Manager. Supervise P.G.A. apprentices and assist them in attaining their goals. -~eaching and conducting golf clinics when the department authorizes such. Set up and conduct a variety of club tournaments for various leagues. Establish and maintain a junior golf program at the club. Open and close the Pro-Shop. Ability to do all the duties of the Assistant Golf Professional to cover for sickness and vacation. Prepare reports as needed and maintain current, reliable files. Perform related work as required. KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS Sound knowledge of the philosophy and principles of the P.G.A. golf system. Thoroughly familiar with all the P.G.A. technical rules and regu- lations pertaining to golf courses and the sport of golf. Skilled in playing golf. Familiar with basic first aid and must maintain a certificate to perform C.P.R. Ability to carry out oral and written instructions. Ability to plan and promote competition golf activities. Ability to instruct and teach others to play golf. Ability to supervise the work of others. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the general public. 'HEAD PROFESSIONAL - continued DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING Must be 18 years old and have a High School Diploma from an accredited school. Must meet all criteria for a Head Professional as required by the P.G.A. Must have a current valid Florida Driver's License° FIRST ASSISTANT PROFESSIONAL (GOLF COURSE) NATURE OF WORK The employee in this class provides operations support to the Head Professional. The employee assigned works under the direction of the Head Professional and the Golf Course Manager and participates~ in the operation of the pro shop and individual or group lessons. The employee works with some independence as procedures become familiar and routines are learned. Work is performed with written and oral instructions and is reviewed through results by the Department Head or his designee. Help keep the clubhouse neat and clean. Ability to maintain an inventory. Assist the Head Professional with Junior programs. Have a thorough understanding of the overall operations. Keep all supplies current including score cards,..starting sheets, tees, pencils, etc. Assist the setting up and conducting tournaments. Ability to perform the Head Professional duties when he is on vacation or sick leave. Perform related work as required. KNOWLEDGE~ ABILITIES AND SKILLS Ability to spread hospitality and good will among the patrons of the golf course. Thorough knowledge of the game of golf, golf equipment and the rules governing play. Considerable knowledge of budgetary and accounting procedures and practices. Skill in playing golf. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to prepare and maintain written records and reports. ASSISTANT GOLF PROFESSIONAL NATURE OF WORK The Boynton Beach Assistant's Program is to further the golf professional training of the employee by providing a wide scope of Golf Course jobs on a rotational basis. The employee assigned is given the opportunity to become a professional or further their professional training through their involvement, education, motivation and communi- cation. Employees will be required to do a variety of tasks relating to the operation of the Golf Course. They will be under the direction of the Golf Course Manager and Head Professional or their designee. Work is performed with some independence in achieving assigned objectives and in carrying out activities in accordance with established policies, regulations, procedures and programs. Work .is reviewed through conference, observation and analysis of reports. ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS (NOTE: These examples are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed in this class. Will work on a rotational basis on a variety of assignments as outlined, but not limited to: teacher or shop assistant duties which include club repair, merchandising, handicapping records, inventory control, bookkeeping and tournament operations. Also included will be working in the bag room, as a starter, as a ranger and in cart maintenance. Keeps the clubhouse, pro shop, locker rooms and concession areas clean and orderly. Inform golf patrons on course rules and regulations. As ranger, urges players to move promptly to keep play smooth and continuous; must be available and be seen at all times patrolling the golf course; in a courteous manner, sees that course rules and regulations are observed by players. As starter, assigns starting times to players; coordinates starting time sheets with golfers teeing off. Performs other work as required. KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS Ability to schedule and reserve starting time; arrange foursomes if necessary; ensure orderly flow of players on course. Thorough knowledge of the P.G.A. rules and regulations pertaining to the game of golf. Thorough knowledge of all the Boynton Beach Municipal Golf Course rules and regulations. Knowledge of basic first aid and must maintain a certificate to perform C.P.R. ASSISTANT GOLF PROFESSIONAL - continued KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS - continued Ability to operate assigned equipment safely and efficiently and be able to' perform routine maintenance and repairs. Ability to perform general custodial duties as required. Ability to open and close the golf course facilities according to departmental procedures. Ability to assist golfers and their guests with any of their requests using courtesy, tact and diplomacy. Ability and knowledge to patrol golf course grounds according to departmental schedule. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public. DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING Must be 18 years old and have a High School Diploma from an accredited school. Must meet all criteria for P.G.A. Apprentice Program as stipulated by the P.G.A. or be a member of the P.G.A. Must have a current, valid Florida Driver's License.
