84-IRESOLUTION NO. 84-
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA, OPPOSING
PROPOSED LEGISLATION TO RECONSTITUTE THE
PALM BEACH COUNTY SOLID WASTE AUTHORITY
BOARD
WHEREAS, the Palm Beach County Solid Waste
Authority was created in part through the efforts and sup-
port of the Palm Beach County Municipal League and its
member municipalities, and
WHEREAS, said Authority as created provides for
Four Authority Board Members to be elected municipal offi-
cials nominated by the Palm Beach County Municipal League
based in part upon the fact that municipalities generate
over 60% of the solid waste stream of Palm Beach County; and
WHEREAS, the Solid Waste Authority is in the criti-
cal year of its existence facing major decisions concerning
both final site selection and resource recovery technology,
both decisions to occur in 1984 requiring knowledgeable and
experienced Authority Board Members; and
WHEREAS, the Municipal League of Palm Beach County
has confidence in the Authority as presently constituted and
desires that said Authority complete its mandated task of
solving the solid waste needs of Palm Beach County.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. The City of Boynton Beach hereby opposes
any amendments to the Solid Waste Authority legislation
which would reconstitute the present Board, or which would
reduce the percentage representation on said Board by muni-
cipal officials.
Section 2. The City of Boynton Beach urges the
Legislative Delegation to delaY, for at least one year any
action concerning the Solid Waste Authority Board Membership
so that the present Board may complete the urgent business
pending at this time, and so that further and sufficient
study may be given by the Legislative Delegation, the Board
of County Commissioners, and the Municipal League as to any
changes in the Board membership.
Section 3. That copies of this resolution be for-
warded to the Palm Beach County Legislative Delegation and
the Palm Beach County Municipal League.
