83-VVA RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CIT~ OF BOYNTON BEACHw FLORIDA,
CONCERNING FLORIDA BOATING IMPROVEMENT
PROGRAM - BOYNTON BEACH BOAT CLUB PARK
WHEREAS, funds for the Florida Boating improvement
Program are made available to County Governments for boating
related activities~ and
WHEREAS~ the County may ~'at its discretion,
authorize approved program grants for use by municipal
governments within the County for any projects meeting the
requirement of this program~; and
WHEREAS, Boat Club Park is among the most popular
intra-coastal waterway parks in Palm Beach County and provi-
des direct access to the Boynton Inlet; and
WHEREAS~ boating activity is considered the prima~y
use of the park and the park has convenient access to 1-95
and immediate ocean access; and
WHEREAS, park use surveys show that an estimated
50% of the boat launching use is by non-City residents
(approximately 60 total boats per day or 21,900 per year);
and
WHEREAS~ the park facility provides a Countywide
service°
NOW, THEREFORE, BE AND IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE
CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA:
Section 1. That the Mayor and City Council
request that the Palm Beach County Board of County
Commissioners apply to the state for, and make available to
the City, a $42,000 grant from the Florida Boating
Improvement Fund so that necessary improvements can be made
to Boat Club Park as a part of a larger park improvement
program that the City has planned and is going to undertake
and further resolve that a grant application be forwarded to
Palm Beach County so that the County Commission can review
it and forward it to the State Department of Natural
Resources along with the required County Commission official
resolution.
