A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH,
FLORIDA, EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR
CONTINUED FUNDING OF COMMUNITY
ACTION AGENCIES
Wt~EREAS, the Omnibus Reconciliation Act of 1981 enacted nine, new
block grants of which the Community Services Block Grant is a part; and
WHEREAS, this action repealed the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964,
which eliminated the Community Services Administration, and instead, created
an Office of Community Services in the Department of Health and Human
Services; and
WHEREAS, it is the intent of Congress that the Community Services
Block Grant be used in continuing ways and means to eliminate human
suffering; and
WHEREAS, we are against any effort that would jeopardize funding
being made available to Community Action Agencies through the Community
Services Block Grant.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BOYNTON BEACR, FLORIDA, that:
1. Ninety per cent of the funds in the Community Services Block Grant
as approved by Congress be made available to Community Action
Agencies as this funding is their major base funding
2. Any demise or shutdown of programs would cause many hardships
on the thousands of poor persons who are recipients of services
provided by Community Action Agencies over Florida; and
3. Certified copies of this Resolution will be forwarded to the
Board of County Commissioners, the Palm Beach County Legislative
Delegation and Governor Bob Graham.
