81-KKA RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OP
BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING EVERGLADES
WATER SYSTEM.
W~EREAS, there is a .continuing increasing importance in th~
relationship of the water system in South Florida to the develop-
ment of South Florida, and the ability of the South Florida
Ecology to support an ever increasing number of citizen~; and
W~{EREAS, it is clear that the water system in the Boynton
Beach area of South Florida and all of South Florida is dependent
upon s much larger water system that stems from the Kissimmee ares
through the Everglades area; and
W~EREAS, it is important that each governmental entity and
each citizen take steps to express their concern about the 'balance
of the ecology of South Florida and the citizenry of South Florida
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA:
Section I~. That the Mayor and City Council of the City of
Boynton Beach expresses concern about the balance of the environ-
ment of South Florida as it relates to the water system and the
population of South Florida.
Section 2. That the Mayor and City Council of the City of
Boynton Beach supports special efforts to take steps to restore
sheet flow to the greatest possible extent from the Kissimmee
Lakes to Florida Bay, by supporting the dechannelization of the
lower Kissimmee River and the restoration of Paradise Run as well
as additional steps to preserve the:
1. Drinking water supplies
2. Organic soils throughout the system
3. Freshwater fisheries
4. Marine fisheries
5. Water of suitable quality for fish and wildlife
6. Wetlands
7. Everglades National Park
by taking steps to correct and repair the relationships between
the Kissimmee River and natural water system throughout South
Florida.
