A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA, URGING THE CREATION
OF STATE OR FEDERAL LEGISLATION TO REGULATE
THEUSE OF ACOUSTIC WARNING DEVICES BY TRAINS
AT GRADE CROSSINGS, AND TO URGE THE FLORIDA
EAST COAST RAILROAD TO UPGRADE THEIR GRADE
CROSSINGS LQCATED IN THE CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH,
AND ALSO FROVIDEADDED SURVEILI2%NCE TO THEIR
TRAINS IN ~TH~S RE~ARD.
WHEREASa the Mayor and City Council of the City of Boynton
Beach, Florida, are aware of the noise pollution caused by the
use of acoustic warning devices by zailroads within Boynton Beach
city limits; and
WHEREAS, grade crossings need continual maintenance and
attention by railroad operators; and
WI~EREAS, railroads are a vital link between South Florida
and the rest of the United States; and
WHEREAS, railroads can be operated on routes passing
directly through urban areas in such a manner as to mutually
benefit the railroad and the surrounding community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA:
Section 1: That the City Council of the City of Boynton
Beach, Florida, requests Governor Bob Graham and the Florida
Legislature to introduce new legislation and to support new
legislation that will better regulate the routine use of acoustic
warning devices by railroads at grade crossings when adequate
alternate warning devices exist, or when the circumstances
concerning a particular crossing support other than normal warn-
lng devices.
