A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF BO~NTON BEACH,
FLORIDA, REQUESTING THE AID OF SENATOR
LAWTON CHILES, SENATOR PAULA HAWKINS AND
CONGRESSMAN DAN MICA TO INSURE THAT A
CONTEMPLATED NEW POSTAL FACILITY FOR THE
BOYNTON BEACH AREA BE BUILT WITHIN THE CITY
LIPfITS OF SAID CITY ~AND THAT THE PRESENT
EXISTING FACILITY OR A SUBSTI~TUTE FACILITY
REMAIN OPEN AS A POST OFFICE BOX FACILITY
WITH RETAIL SERVICES FOR THE GENERAL
DOWNTOWN AREA.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Boynton Beach
recognizes the inadequacies of the existing postal facility to
serve our rapidly growing population and also recognizes the need
for said new faciliny, and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Boynton Beach
feels that it would be in the best interest of said community
and surrounding area that said facility be located within the
City of Boynton Beach, Florida; and
WHEREAS, the existing post office facility within the
City provides needed post office box facilities as well as retail
postal services for the general downtovzn area: and
WHEREAS, a major revitalization effort in the central
business area east of
and
States
1-95 is scheduled to take place during 1981
WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of both the United
Postal Service and the City to keep this facility open
on a limited basis; and
WHEREAS, Senator Lawton Chiles, Senator Paula Hawkins
and Congressman Dan Mica are representing the people of the Cinv
of Boynton Beach, Florida: in the Federal Government and there-
fore are in the best position to express the desires of the
people of the City of Boynton Beach.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA:
Section 1. That it is the desire of the residents of
the City of Boynton Beach, Florida, and their elected representa-
tives that a new postal facility being considered for this area
be built within the City limits of the City of Boynton Beach,
Florida.
Section 2. That the United States Postal Service recog-
nizes the need to maintain a full service retail postal facility
containing an adequate number of postal boxes and patron parking
spaces rom the existing businesses and residents concentrated in
the area east of 1-95.
Section 3. That the United States Postal Service eithe~
maintains maid service in the postal faeitity at its present
location or seeks a new location within the centralized business
area scheduled for revitalization in Boynton Beach.
Section 4. That the City Clerk be instructed to send
a certified copy of this Resolution to the Offices of Senator
Lawton Chiles, Senator Paula Hawkins and Congressman Dan Mica
with a letter requesting that they take whatever action is
appropriate to insure that the postal service actions are in
accordance with the aims as expressed in this Resolution~
