RESPONSIBILITIES, DESCRIPTION, AND SALARY OF
SAID POSITIObIS.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BOYNTON
BEACH, FLORIDA:
Section 1. That the positionsof Psramedic Officer I and
Paramedic Officer II as classified positions are hereby created.
The duties and responsibilities of said offices shall be in
accordance with the job descriptions attached hereto and made a
part hereof. With Paramedic Officer I at Pay Grade 30 and
Paramedic Officer II at Pay Grade 31.

IIiTURE OF WORK
This is a highly responsible, technical and supervisory position performed
under the direction of the Fire Chief or his designate. A~ employee in this
class coordinates the City's emergency services program as required by the
Paramedic Officer II and the department Medical Director. Work assignments may
include responsibility for the efficient dperation of the City's emergency services
and assisting in training of EMT I's and other paramedic, personnel. Assists and
instructs individual and unit personnel assigned to the emergency medical care
facilities Of the C~y and helps establish policies for' their operations as well
as other administrative functions as required. Work is performed ~wlth considerable
latitude for ind.ividual judgement and initiative and is reviev~ed through conferences,
observation, and results obtained.

Assists in the coordination and development of paramedic aspects of the City's
emergency plans.
Maintains established procedures as outlined by the medical director and
Paramedic Officer II for the operation of specialized vehicle/teams assigned to
the Fire Department for persons having cardiac syfmptoms or requesting cardio-
pulmonary resuscitation or injuries caused by accident~ etc.
Establishes liaison through the medical director with local medical treatment
~acilities.
Responsible for establishment and maintenance of emergency treatment equii~
ment an8 for requisitioning supplies used in the rescue program.
Thorough knowledge of the geographical layout of the area served.
Ability to act quickly and calm~ in emergency situations.
Coordinates and interprets City emergency medical care to the ¢ommo~ityo
Ability to exercise sound judgement~ to promote harmony and cooperate with
fetlowworkers an8 the general public.
KNOWLEEGE, ABILITIES AND S~TT,T~
Must possess a current valid advanced cardiac life ,z~pport certificate.
Must possess a current valid state of Florida Paramedic certificate
Must pass all requirements established by the ~ed~_'ca! Director.
Extensive knowledge of the field of emergency medical care as it pertains
to paramedic operations. -~ Ability to prepare clear and concise reporvs.
Ability to learn and remember street locations and condom~iumnames and
locations in the City.
Considerable knowledge of the skill in the o ~'
pera~on and maintenance of the
various types of apparatus and equipment used by the department.
Considerable knowledge of modern fire fighting principals, procedures and
practices.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TP~INZNG
Considerable experience in firefighter work~ must have passed Firefighter
exam for Boynten Beach and must possess a current valid ~torida Paramedic certifi-
cate. Must possess a diploma from a standard high school. Must possess a valid
Florida Driver's license.

NATURE OF WORK
Employee in this classification serves as the supervisor of the paramedic'
and emergency medical technician program. All deoartmenta! adminiStration work
is' performed under the supervision of the Fire Chief and/or commanding ~fficer
designated by him. All emergency medical service s are performed under the super-
vision of the Medical Director. Employee is responsible for the appearance~
discipline sad performance of duty of all paramedic personnel under him. Employee
is responsible, when requested, to assist in budgetary work~ hiring and firing
and other administration related duties. Employee assigned to %his class will
perform all the duties of a paramedic. ?;ork is reviewed thrc~gh reports~ inspections
and observation of results.

Assists the Medical Director in implementing and coordinating departmental
paramedic personnel and activities.
Establishes and maintains continuous ~n-service training pr~a~rams.
Prepares departmental reports and rosters of certified employees.
Coordinates all departmental emergency medical work with the l~edical Director.
Receives end investigates ail complaints made against medical personnel under
him; observes and becomes familiar with the cap~oilities of his subordinates
Assists in budget preparation; hiring sad disciplinary actio~ or other adminis-
tration functions as requested by the Fire 0hief.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKIT,T~
Must possess a current valid state of Florida Paramedic certificate.
Must cass all requirements established by the Medical Director,
