AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA,
ESTABLISHING A PROCEDURE FOR SELECTION OF
MAYOR PRO TEM; PROVIDING FOR A
DEFINITION; PROVIDING FOR POWERS AND
DUTIES; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS,
SEVERABILiTY, CODIFICATION AND AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Boynton
Beach, Florida pursuant to Section 49 of the City Charter has
the authority to establish other officers and to designate the
duties of such officers; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Boynton
Beach, Florida deems it to be in the best interests of the
City to establish a procedure for the designation of a Mayor
Pro Tem to serve in the absence of the Mayor and Vice Mayor;
NOW, THEREFORE, IT iS HEREBY ORDAINED BY THE CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA, THAT:
Section 1. There is hereby created the office of
Mayor Pro Tem. At such time that the Vice Mayor is selected
by the City Commission, the Mayor and Commission shall select
a Mayor Pro Tem to serve for a period of one (1) year, until
the next general election of a member of the Commission.
Section 2. The duties and responsibilities of the
Mayor Pro Tem are as follows:
A. In the absence of the Mayor and Vice Mayor, to
Chair all meetings of the City Commission.
B. In the absence of the Mayor and Vice Mayor, to
act as head of the City for ceremonial purposes.
Section 3. That all ordinances or parts of ordinances
in conflict herewith be and the same are hereby repealed.
Section 4. Should any section or provision of this
ordinance or portion hereof, any paragraph, sentence or word
be declared by a court of competent jurisdiction to be
invalid, such decision shall not affect the remainder of this
ordinance.
