75-YY RESOLUTION NO. 75- ~ A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA, REQUESTING THE HONORABLE REUBIN O'D. ASKEW, GOVERNOR, AND THE 'HONORABLE JAMES WILLIAMS, LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR, BOTH OF THE STATE OF FLORIDA, TO ASSIST THE BOYNTON BEACH BICENTENNIAL COMMITTEE IN OBTAINING A $6,000.00 FILM GRANT. WHEREAS, in commemoration of this great nation's Bicentennial celebration, the City Council of the City of Boynton Beach, Florida, has heretofore created the Boynton Beach Bicent- ennial Committee and appointed a number of outstanding citizens to serve on said Committee; and WHEREAS, said City was the first city in Fl~orida to apply for recognition as a Bicentennial Community; and WHEREAS, said City was the first city to Obtain and place on display in itS~ municipal library a 5iberty Bell as a ~icentennial observation; and WHEREAS, said City has heretofore created and dedicated it's Bicentennial Park in further observance of the bicentennial celebration; and WHEREAS., the citizens and residen~ts of the City of Boynton Beach are among the most patriotic of persons to be found any- where and are extremely proud of their heritage and of the history of the City of Boynton Beach; and WHEREAS, the Boynton Beach Bicentennial Committee is attempting to produce a movie film depicting the historical background and development of the City of Boynton Beach as a lasting memorial of the~$icentennial celebration and for the education and informational benefit for the future youth and residents of said City; and WHEREAS, in order to assist in the financing of said movie film, the Boynton Beach Bicentennial Committee has here- tof6re applied to the State of Florida for a grant of $6,000.00, · n anticipation of which the said Committee has obtained $3,000.00 from the City Council of said City and has, in addition, raised through independent effort an additional sum of $3,000.00; and WHEREAS, ~.nO~withstanding the fact that the Boynton Be~ Bicentennial Committee has arranged for the accumulation of $6,000.00, the Bicentennial Committee has now been informed by the State of Florida that the Committee's long-standing request for the $6,000.00 ~f~ant-:~ has been denied 'by the State financial grant representatives; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Boynton Beach, Florida deems the said proposed historical movie film to be a most worthwhile and beneficial project for the Bicentennial celebration. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA: Section 1: That the Honorable Reubin O'D. ~Askew, Governor, and the Honorable James Williams, Lieutenant Governor, both of the State of Florida, be and are hereby urgently requested to assist the Boynton Beach Bicentennial Committee in .its efforts to obtain the said-S6,000.00 grant for the production of the said historical movie film. Section 2: That a true and certified copy of this Resolution be furnished forthwith to the Honorable Reubin O'D. Askew, Governor, and the Honorable James Williams, Lieutenant Governor, both of the State of Florida, as well as to the State and County Bicentennial Committees.
