73-NRESOLUTION NO. 73- ~ A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA, UNANIMOUSLY OPPOSING PROPOSED LEGISLATION ESTABLISHING A COUNTY WIDE BUILDING CODE. WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Boynton Beach has adopted and amended to meet specific local needs, the Southern Standard Building Code, which has established high building standards throughout the City of Boynton Beach, and WHEREAS, said City Council reserves the right to adopt an even stricter building code if deemed necessary to preserve the health, safety and general welfare of its citizens, and WHEREAS, in as much as signs are an integral part of the Southern Standard Building Code, as amended by the City, the pro- posed legislation could effectively repeal the sign code of the City, and WHEREAS, fire districts of the City are controlled by the Southern Standard Building Code, as amended by the City, this proposed legislation could abrogate this control, and WHEREAS, regulation of building permits is a vital commu- nity function, dealt with by the Southern Standard Building Code, as amended to preserve health, safety and welfare of the citizens of this City. NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Boynton Beach, Florida: t. That the proposed legislation establishing a county wide building code is strongly opposed for the following reasons: A. The City could not effectively protect the health, safety and welfare of its citizens; B. The City sign code could be repealed; C. The City fire control districts could be made in- effective; D. The City would lose control of the issuance of its own building permits. PASSED AND ADOPTED THIS ~ DAY OF FEBRUARY A.D., 1973.
