71-HRESOLUTION No. 71-H
WHEREAS, the Legislature of the State of Florida has heretofore
provided for the mandatory assessment and collection of municipal taxes by
the Palm Beach County Tax Assessor and Tax Collector, respectively, and
WHEREAS, after operating under subject system, it is readily
apparent that same is not effective and is detrimental to the best interest of
the City of Boynton Beach, ]~lorida, in that no economic savings have been
realized through reduction of City personnel or equipment, it has been
necessary for the City to increase its costs in this regard by paying fees
to the County Tax Assessor and County Tax Collector, and the delay in
collection and transmittal of municipal taxes by the County Tax Collector
has caused a substantial loss of interest income to the City;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA:
1. That the Palm Beach County Legislative Delegation be requested
to sponsor, introduce and promulgate passage of amendatory legislation to
existing State law now requiring mandatory assessment and collection of
municipal taxes by the County Tax Assessor and County Tax Collector, to
provide that said procedure be optional on the part of municipalities rather
than mandatory.
