62-QRESOLUTION No. 62-Q
WHEREAS, the Florida State Road Department is about to initiat,
a certain road construction project within the City limits of the City of
Boynton Beach, Florida, over the right-of-way of State Road 804 (Ocean
Avenue), from U. S. Highway No. 1 to State Road A-l-A; and
WHEREAS, it has been indicated to the City Council that there
is a possibility that in connection with subject operation, said Ocean Avenue
would be closed to through traffic for an undertermined period; and
WHEREAS,the said Ocean Avenue is the only convenient means
of access between the City of Boynton Beach and the Town of Ocean Ridge;
and
WHEREAS, the resultant problems involved in such complete
closing, not only from the standpoint of public health, safety and welfare,
but also from the standpoint of impeding the commercial flow of traffic to
this City are readily apparent; and
WHEREAS, although the City Council recognizes the necessity
of subject road improvement project and is in accord therewith, it further
recognizes the inherent danger of a complete closing of subject thoroughfare
for even a temporary period of construction;
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of the
City of Boynton Beach, Florida:
1. That strenuous and vehement objection is hereby made on
behalf of the City of Boynton Beach, Florida, to any contemplated closing
of said State Road 804 (Ocean Avenue) on a temporary basis or otherwise,
in connection with the reconstruction of said roadway by the Florida State
Road Department, based upon the dire necessity of maintaining an open
thoroughfare of traffic between the neighboring cities of Boynton Beach and
Ocean Ridge, not only to enable the commercial flow of traffic to continue
unimpeded, but more important to maintain the orderly flow of public service
vehicular traffic involved in fire protection~police protection, garbage
collection, water maintenance, ambulance service, eic., and the saki'.
Florida State Road Department is respectfully requested to exert all possible
efforts to insure the maintenance of the free and open flow of traffic between
said municipalities over the said Ocean Avenue during the period of the above
construction project.
2. Thai the City Clerk is hereby insiructed to furnish certified
copies of this resolution to the Florida State Road Department, Fort
and Tallahassee,
Lauderdale/ .~'lorida, and to lhe County Commission of Palm Beach County,
Florida.
