A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA, IDENTIFYING
THE NEED FOR LOCAL, STATE AND NATIONAL
FUNDING ASSISTANCE TO RENOVATE A SENIOR
ADULT CENTER AND PROVIDE ESSENTIAL
RECREATION, NUTRITION AND SOCIAL SERVICES
FOR THE CITY'S SENIOR ADULT POPULATION;
REQUESTING LOCAL, STATE AND NATIONAL
ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES TO SUPPORT THIS
REQUEST THROUGH DIRECT FUNDING ALLOCATION
OF $987,000 DURING FY 98-99, INCLUDING
SUBSEQUENT ANNUAL FUNDING FOR THE
PROVISION OF SENIOR ADULT PROGRAMS AND
SERVICES; DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO
FORWARD A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO EACH
MEMBER OF THE FLORIDA HOUSE OF
REPRESENTATIVES AND STATE SENATE, AND
PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE,
WHEREAS, the percentage of senior adult households in Boynton Beach is
approximately 51%; and
WHEREAS, 42% of senior adult households have incomes below the median
family income and 46% survive on limited incomes provided by Social Security; and
WHEREAS, all senior adults regardless of income level can benefit from a
senior adult center in Boynton Beach which will provide recreation, nutrition and
related social services; and
WHEREAS, local, state and national representatives have partnerships with
the City of Boynton Beach and a vested interest in funding a new senior adult
center, recreation programs and services for their constituencies; and
WHEREAS, the Boynton Beach City Commission has allocated funding to
initiate the purchase and renovation of a new senior Center;
NOW THEREFORE, BE :IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMTSSTON OF
THE CI'TY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORI'DA:
Section 1. That the City Commission of the City of Boynton Beach hereby
requests all local, state and national elected representatives to provide financial
assistance in the amount of $987,000 to the City of Boynton Beach for the
completion of a new senior adult center and program services.
Section 2. The City Clerk is hereby directed to forward a copy of this
resolution to each member of the Florida House of Representatives and State
Senate
