3 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF BOYNTON
4 BEACH, FLORIDA, EXPRESSING A DESIRE AND
5 INTENT TO MEMORIALIZE THAT PORTION OF 1-95
6 WITHIN CITY LIMITS AS "POWIMIA MEMORIAL
7 HIGHWAY"; AUTHORIZING CITY
8 ADMINISTRATION TO PURSUE ALL NECESSARY
9 STEPS IN OBTAINING APPROVALS AND
10 AUTHORIZATIONS, NECESSARY TO IMPLEMENT
11 THE DESIRE AND INTENT; INCLUDING WITHOUT
12 LIMITATION SECURING APPROVAL FROM LOCAL,
13 STATE AND FEDERAL ENTITIES WITH
14 JURISDICTION OVER HIGHWAYS AND PROVIDING
15 AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

17 WHEREAS, the Veterans Advisory Commission has requested the support of the
18 Boynton Beach City Commission to memorialize that portion of 1-95 within City limits of
19 Boynton Beach as "POW/MIA Memorial Highway"; and
20 WHEREAS, Prisoners of war and soldiers who are missing in action have endured
21 terrible suffering for their country and for the cause of freedom. This Resolution seeks to
22 honor our brave men and women whose personal sacrifices should long be remembered.
23 WHEREAS, it is the express desire and intent of the City of Boynton Beach to
24 honor the men and women of the armed forces who served our country and were classified
25 as POW or MIA; and
26 WHEREAS, the symbol of a dedicated highway to POW /MIAs establishes increased
27 pride in veterans, communities and the residents ofthe City of Boynton Beach; and
28 WHEREAS, the City of Boynton Beach is directing City Administration to secure
29 the necessary authority from local, state and federal agencies in order to memorialize that
30 portion ofI-95 within the City limits of Boynton Beach as "POW/MIA Memorial Highway."

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA, THAT:
Section 1. The foregoing "WHEREAS" clauses are true and correct and
hereby ratified and confirmed by the City Commission.
Section 2. The City Commission of the City of Boynton Beach directs City
Administration to secure the necessary authority from local, state, and federal agencies in
order to memorialize that portion of 1-95 within the City limits of Boynton Beach as
"POW/MIA Memorial Highway."
Section 3. The memorializing of that portion of 1-95 within the City limits of
Boynton Beach as "POW /MIA Memorial Highway" will be in the best interests of the
general public of the City of Boynton Beach.
Section 4. That this Resolution will become effective immediately upon passage.
