AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA, FINDING
AND DECLARING THAT HENCEFORTH THE NAME
OF THE LEGISLATIVE BODY OF THE CITY OF
BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA, SHALL BE THE
CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOYNTON
BEACH, FLORIDA WITH THE OFFICE OF THE
LEGISLATIVE MEMBERS BEING ENTITLED
COMMISSIONER, ONE OF WHOM SHALL ALSO
CONTINUE TO HOLD THE OFFICE, AND
ADDITIONAL TITLE, OF MAYOR, ONE AS
VICE-MAYOR; PROVIDING FOR DIRECTION TO
THE CITY ADMINISTRATION AND CITY
ATTORNEY'S OFFICE; PROVIDING A
SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; PROVIDING AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the members of the City Council of the City of
~oynton Beach, Florida, have determined that, including but
not limited to the ease of reference and the neutrality of
title, the City's legislative body should henceforth be
entitled City Commission, but retaining the titles and
officer of Mayor and Vice-Mayor, and,
WHEREAS, The City Council of the City of Boynton Beach,
?~orida, wishes to formally institute such name changes
immediately, codification of such changes uniformly
throughout the City Charter and Code of Ordinances occurring
at such time in the future when a recodified Code of
Ordinances of the City of Boynton Beach, Florida is
required, and,
WHEREAS, notification of the formal adoption of this
name change by inclusion of a one page addendum to the
Charter and Code would facilitate the inclusion of such a
name change in the Code and Charter with minimal cost to the
City, until such time as a complete recodification is
required.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BYTHE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. That it is hereby declared by the City
Council of the City of Boynton Beach, Florida, that
henceforth the name and title of the legislative body of the
City of Boynton Beach, Florida, shall be the City Commission
of the City of Boynton Beach, Florida; and further, that the
office of the legislative members shall be entitled
Commissioner, with the retention of the offices and
additional titles of Mayor and Vice-Mayor.
Section 2. That all references within the Charter
and Code of Ordinances of the City of Boynton Beach to the
term City Council are henceforth defined as synonymous to
the term City Commission; and further, that any reference to
the term Councilman shall be synonymous to the term
Commissioner.
Section 3. That the City Administration and City
Attorney's Office are hereby directed to include the changes'
as set forth in Section 1 and 2 above, in the Charter and
Code of Ordinances of the City of Boynton Beach, Florida, by
addendum until such time that recodification of the Charter
and Code of Ordinances of the City of Boynton Beach, Florida
is required.
Section 4. Should any section or provision of this
~rdinance or any portion thereof be declared by a court of
~ompetent jurisdiction to be invalid, such decision shall
not affect the remainder of this Ordinance.
Section 5. This Ordinance shall become effective
