3 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF
4 THE CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA,
5 RECOGNIZING THE "BUILDING CITIZENSHIP IN
6 THE COMMUNITY: BACK TO BASICS: INITIATIVE
7 OF THE FLORIDA LEAGUE OF CITIES, INC., AND
8 PLEDGING SUPPORT FOR THIS ST A TEWIDE
9 EFFORT.

11 WHEREAS, municipal government is the government closest to most citizens, with
12 tremendous daily impact upon its residents; and
13 WHEREAS, city government is administered for and by its citizens, and is
14 dependent upon public commitment to, and understanding of, its many responsibilities, and
15 city government officials and employees share the responsibility to pass along their
16 understanding of public services and their benefits; and
17 WHEREAS, Florida's citizenry receives public services from state, county, school
18 district and other governmental levels, educating Florida's citizens of all ages as to the
19 structure and function of all the levels of government, and how to be wise consumers of such
20 services is therefore critically important; and
21 WHEREAS, the Florida League of Cities and its member cities have joined together
22 to teach students and all citizens about municipal government through a variety of different
23 projects, resources and information; and
24 WHEREAS, this initiative will make resources available to cities and their citizens
25 to utilize in furthering their goals for civic education.
26 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
27 THE CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA THAT:

29 Section 1. The foregoing "Whereas" clauses are hereby ratified and confirmed as
30 being true and correct and are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution upon adoption
31 hereof.

1 Section 2. That the City of Boynton Beach does hereby encourage all citizens,
2 city government officials and employees to utilize the opportunities and resources available
3 through this initiative.
4 Section 3. That the City of Boynton Beach does encourage educational
5 partnerships between city government and schools, as well as civic groups and other
6 organizations.
7 Section 4. That the City of Boynton Beach does support and encourage all city
8 governments to actively promote the "Building Citizenship in the Community: Back to
9 Basics" initiative.
10 PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City of Boynton Beach, this ':5" Day of
11 November, 2008.
