A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA,
AUTHORIZING AND APPROVING CERTAIN JOB
DESCRIPTIONS AS SET OUT IN EXHIBIT "A',
ATTACHED HERETO AND MADE A PART HEREOF;
AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City Commission must consider the approval of any new,
reclassified and/or retitled positions which are part of the City Manager's annual
recommended budget; and
WHEREAS, the 1995/96 annual operating budget, as recommended, includes the
necessary funds for these additional new, reclassified and/or retitled staff positions; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA THAT:
~ The City Commission of the City of Boynton Beach, Florida hereby
authorizes and adopts the job descriptions, as set out in Exhibit "A", attached hereto and
made a part hereof.
This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon passage.

CADD TECHNICIAN
Nature of Work:
This is specialized work in computer aided drafting and design utilizing computer resources such
as the automated mapping computer files and coordinated geometry (COGO) computer files, as well
as manual drafting techniques. Depending upon area of assignment, an employee in a position
allocated to this class prepares architectural, engineering, or utilities plans; prepares and assembles
detailed maps; and/or prepares graphic presentations utilizing rough or detailed sketches, notes and
available graphic computer files. Work includes selecting CADD software, system trouble-shooting
and day-to-day maintenance. Work is performed under the supervision of a higher level CADD
professional or administrative position, and is reviewed for accuracy, technical knowledge
demonstrated and achievement of desired results in design and drafting applications.

Performs detailed drafting on electrical, mechanical and structural layouts; computes and drafts work

Prepares and updates Master Plan file; enters data on appropriate layers, deleting and transferring
obsolete information.
Prepares and assembles maps for specific purposes utilizing computer resources.
Compiles floor plan and building inventory files; changes scale as appropriate to produce
construction drawings; creates displays and forms as required.
Utilizing computer or manual processes, prepares floor plans and checks estimates.
Prepares various drawings from field notes; reduces field notes; plots and checks center lines and
cross sections, uses planimeter or computer programs to make engineering calculations; and makes
less technical computation.
Draws and computes dimensions for minor structures; utilizing manual or computer design
resources; shows general layouts with appropriate views of buildings and related facilities.

CADD TECHNICIAN

TRANSPORTATION CREW LEADER
Nature of Work:
This is a responsible position dealing with the coordination of paperwork, employees and
responsibility in vehicle operation work in transporting City residents and citizens. Work may
involve the preparation of work schedules, reviewing time-cards, coordinating Lift-Tm, scheduling
employee meetings for informational purposes, passing out paychecks and any other associated
paperwork that needs to be completed. Work may involve operating passenger vehicles over
prescribed fixed routes within assigned areas or if assigned to special service areas to operate
vehicles the most direct route between destination. Responsibilities include operating the vehicle
carefully, safely and within a prescribed time schedule. Work is performed with the utmost regard
for the safety of the passengers, the general public and all equipment. Specific assignment or
schedules are reviewed on a daily basis. An employee in this position reports to the Public Works
Director.

Takes vehicle to be serviced for repairs/preventative maintenance; cleans and washes vehicles as
necessary. Performs routine daily maintenance of vehicle and safety checks; detects improper
functioning mechanical systems on the assigned vehicle.
Possess working knowledge of City's geography; complies with City traffic and motor vehicle
regulations.
Listens, understands and follows oral and written instructions and directives; conveys information
clearly and concisely.
Establishes and maintains an effective working relationship with supervisors, subordinates,

Education and Job Related Experience:
High School Diploma/GED preferred. Must be able to read and write. Must possess a current valid
Florida Class "B" Commercial Driver's License with a "P" endorsement and comply with all Federal
Department of Transportation regulations and over one (1) year up to three O) years experience in
the operation of motor vehicles, preferably transporting passengers; or any equivalent combination
which meets the following minimum abilities:

requirements are necessary to accommodate a bus transit schedule.
DIRECTOR OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SERVICES
Nature of Work:
This is responsible, professional and administrative work a~ the City Director of Information
Technology Services. Work involves responsibility for formulating and carrying out technical
details and phases of the City's Computer systems. The employee in this classification supervises
and directly participates in the organization and development of specialized computer programming
for all departments of the City. The employee is responsible for the coordination and best utilization
of the computer time. The employee in this classification supervises the persons assigned to the
Computer Operations, Programmers, Keypunch Operators, etc. Work is performed under the general
direction of the Assistant City Manager, but with considerable latitude for individual judgment and
initiative and is reviewed by conference and by observation of results achieved.

An employee in this position is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Departmental
communications and control system consisting of the (1) Digital phone switch, remote system, phone
instruments and cabling in multiple locations, (2) Computer.network and systems consisting of
Servers and related hardware components, network system components and cabling, connected
workstations and PC's in multiple locations, (3) Water Treatment Plant Control System network
including hardware, sof~ware, PLC's, Telemetry Systems and interface to instnunents at East & West
Treatment Plants.
Daily activities are supervised by the Assistant to the Utilities Director. Work is reviewed through
discussion and direct observation of results.

extensions, pick groups, user authorization codes, modify access fights, etc. Installs new phone
circuits, relocates existing circuits and equipments as required due to personnel relocations, or new
needs/functions. Monitors Switch performance and usage relating to trunk loading, ovemms, error
reports, etc. Troubleshoots and repairs minor system faults when required, and major faults with the
help of "on-call" technical assistance. Monitors 48 Volt battery backup system and inverter for
Digital Switch which allows phone system to remain functional during power outages.

and Call Accounting systems to provide for new extension and modifications, passwords, updated
