A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA, OBJECTING TO
ANY RECOMMENDATION TO ELIMINATE THE URBAN
FORESTRY PROGRAM THAT IS ADMINISTERED
THROUGH THE DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE AND
CONSUMER SERVICES, WITHIN THE DIVISION OF
FORESTRY, WHICH WOULD RESULT IN THE
ELIMINATION OF ALL URBAN FORESTERS
STATEWIDE; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the city of Boynton BeaCh, recognizes the need for a professional
urban forestry program; and
WHEREAS, the Division of Forestry provides professional support and
educational training that is needed for the development of a healthy urban forest and
a professional urban forestry program; and
WHEREAS, the City of Boynton Beach has, in the past utilized this program
for the benefit of its citizens and residents, by providing educational information, and
technical support to City Departments, which assistance has made a direct impact in
the beautification of our City.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA, THAT:
Section 1. The City Commission of the City of Boynton Beach, Florida hereby
vigorously opposes and objects to any proposed budget that would result in the
deletion of any urban forestry positions within the State of Florida.
Section 2. The elected membership of the Palm Beach County Legislative
Delegation to the State Ho~se and Senate are urged to use their good offices to bring
forth the necessary Stat.~ funding for the Florida Department of AgriCulture and
Consumer Services in particular the Division of Forestry for the continuation of Urban
Forestry Programs within Palm Beach County and all other counties statewide.
Section 3. Representatives of the people of Palm Beach County in the State
House of Representatives and Senate are urged to use their good offices to bring forth
the necessary funding to the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer
Services, which includes the Division of Forestry, in support of Urban Forestry
Programs within Palm Beach County and the State of Florida.
Section 4. The leadership of the municipal and county governments of Palm
Beach County are urged to Support the Florida Division of Forestry's Urban Forestry
Program and oppose any proposed budget cut that would result in the elimination of
the Urban Forestry Program and Urban Foresters, both locally and statewide.
Section 5. The City Clerk is hereby directed to forward a copy of this
Resolution to each Florida State Senator and House Representative for Palm Beach
County, the Palm Beach County Legislative Delegation, the board of County
Commissioners of Palm Beach County, each municipality in Palm Beach County,
Governor Lawton Chiles and Commissioner Bob Crawford, FDACS.
Section 6.. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon passage.
