R94-/,~'z./Z A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH ACCEPTING THE CHILDREN'S CHARTER IN ORDER TO PROTECT, ADVANCE THE WELL BEING, HEALTH AND DEVELOPMENT OF ALL OUR CHILDREN; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, Florida is the 19th wealthiest state, yet our children rank 48th in the nation on a scale of 10 key indicators of health and well-being; and WHEREAS, the provision of a children's charter will provide for the advocacy and support of the entire children's population of the City; and and WHEREAS, in Palm Beach County one in six of our children live in poverty; WHEREAS, the Children's Services Council in May adopted a Children's Charter and are requesting agencies serving children adopt it as well. NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Commission of Boynton Beach: Section 1. The Children's Charter attached as Exhibit "A" is hereby accepted by the City Commission and hereby, agrees with the premises contained therein. Preamble We, , in order to protect and advance the well.being, health and development of all our children, do adopt this ehn~e~ All children should be assured of healthy minds and bodies. All children should be protected against abuse and neglect and other harmful treatment. All children who have special mental or physical needs should be pro- vided with an education and appropriate medical care. All children should be provided with adequate nourishment, housing and clothing. All children should have access to wholesome recreational and cultural resources. All children should be protected against disease and injury. All children should be educated in accordance with their capacities. All Preschool children shotfld be provided with a safe, stimulating envi- ronment in which they can achieve school readiness. All children should be given a sense of family and community so that they can become productive members of society. All children should be given due regard as members of our society.
