06.09.01 Reduced Workweek CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA ADMINISTRATIVE POLICY MANUAL CHAPTER: 06 Personnel Policies Policy No. 06.09.01 SECTION: 09 Hours of Work Page: 1 of 1 SUBJECT: 01 Reduced Workweek PURPOSE: In order to provide increased flexibility for employees and to effectuate savings for the City, a pilot program of a reduced 36 hour work week will be implemented. This program will be evaluated at the end of FY 90/91 to determine the feasibility of continuing the program. Continuation will be determined by employee responsiveness, ease of implementation, disruption of the operations, cost savings, and monitoring of quality and quantity of level of services provided to the citizens. PROCEDURE: 1. The Department Director will declare if his/her department will participate in the program. The department may participate on a year term, seasonally, quarterly, or monthly, depending on the nature of work. 2. If a department is participating in the program, an employee may submit a request to the division director to participate in the program. The employee and the division director will determine the actual hours of the workweek and the length of time this reduced hours will be in effect. This request will be submitted to the department head for approval. A Personnel Action form will be submitted to Personnel, and Finance for inclusion in the employees file and adjustment to payroll. 3. The Personnel action form will state the date the program will begin and include a statement in the "comments" section, that the employee's social security and pension calculations will be reduced based on the lower salary for the time period of the program. 4. At the conclusion of the time period, a Personnel Action form will be prepared removing the employee from the 36 hour program. 5. An employee on 36 hours, who takes vacation or sick time, will have time deducted based on the work hours established for the workweek. For example, if the 36 hour work week results in only working 4 hours every Wednesday, if an employee were sick on Wednesday, only 4 hours sick time would be credited for Wednesday's time and not 8 hours.
