R94-75 RESOLUTION N O. R94- ~',.~' A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA, OPPOSING FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION PLANS TO ELIMINATE ALL PARKING AND SEVERAl MEDIAN CUTS FROM A 4.3 MILE STRETCH OF U.S. HIGHWAY 1. WHEREAS, the Florida Department of Transportation has proposed a $2.6 million project to encompass U.S. Highway 1 from the C-16 Canal in Boynton Beach to George Bush Boulevard in Delray Beach; and WHEREAS, the project calls for the elmination of all on-street parking and many median cuts along this 4.3 mile length of U.S. Highway 1 and the construction of bicycle paths insteao; and WHEREAS, the many businesses located on U.S. Highway 1 depend upon the targeted on-street parking for use by their customers; and WHEREAS, the elimination of this parking would effectively destroy an entire business community; and WHEREAS, there is no justification for the elimination of the parking on U.S. Highway 1; and WHEREAS, those same businesses likewise depend upon the median cuts to allow customers to reach their establishments; and WHEREAS, the elmination of those median cuts would greatly reduce access to businesses located on the highway; and WHEREAS, the owners of the businesses which would be affected are unanimous in their opposition to the elimination of the parking and median cuts. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA, THAT: Section 1. The City Commission of the City of Boynton Beach, Florida does hereby vehemently oppose the elimination of on-street parking and median cuts along U.S. Highway 1 in Boynton Beach; and Section 2. The City Commission of the City of Boynton Beach, Florida, does hereby implore the Florida Department of Transportation to revise its proposal for U.S. Highway 1 from the C-16 Canal in Boynton Beach to George Bush Boulevard in Delray Beach to allow said parking and all median cuts to remain.
