M~yor Roberts called to order a special meeting of the City Council
at 5:32 P.M. to consider the water eEergency.
~. Kohl stated that the City wells were producing ten mill~on
gallons per day ~nd ottr ~s~ge w~s ten ~11~on gallons ma~y days;
some days ~¢e do not have w~ter in the storage tanks. He had dis-
cussed the situation with the City ~an~ger of DeS_ray Beach who had
assttred him the City of Delray ~s willing to offer assist~nce. If
the w~ter systems of the two cities were connected~ it would be of
mutual benefit. He f~rther stated that he had spoken to Vice Mayor
DeLong on this subject a~d he was in complete accord. Mr. Kohl
recommended that two 6~' connections be m~de ~ud the water would be
av~i!able if it becomes necessary to request s~ne. He estimated the
cost ~.~uld be apprcr~te~- $10:000.00,
~ayor Roberts stated that he felt this precautionary step should be
t~ken for protection of the health, welx~a~e and safety ~f the citizens
of Boynton Beach.
~s. Jackson and Mr. l~?~meningboth spoke in favor of the proposed
connection.
~. Ha~me~ made a motion to authorize the City Ma~ger to proceed
~ud instruct the City Engineer a~d Utilities Department to m~ke ~u
inter-connection with the City of Delray Beach, The ik~uds ca~ be
appropriated at the next regular meeting. Motion seconded by ~V~s.
Jackson and carried $ - O.
Nr. Joe Sw~un, of Russell &~xon stated that the o~ficials of his
firm assttred him that there would be no problem on this as fa~ as
the Bond Resolution w~s concerned.
The City Attorney readReso!ution No. 75 - ~ authorizing the City
Mam~ger to enter into such a~rangements as shall be necessaa~yto
implement the acquisition ofpotable -~ter.
