3 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
4 ; CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA, ACCEPTING A
5 FEMA SAFER GRANT AWARD IN THE AMOUNT OF
6 $967,281 FOR GRANT #EMW- 2012 -FH -00363 FOR THE
7 HIRING OF 7 PROBATIONARY FIREFIGHTERS FOR A
8 PERIOD OF TWO YEARS; AND PROVIDING AN
9 EFFECTIVE DATE.

12 WHEREAS, the City of Boynton Beach Fire Department applied for and has been
13 awarded a Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant from the
14 Federal Emergency management Agency (FEMA); and
15 WHEREAS, the grant award is in the amount of $967,281 with no required City
16 matching funds; and
17 WHEREAS, the Fire Rescue Department is requesting authorization to spend the
18 entire project budget to hire 7 probationary firefighters which will reinstate the 7 firefighter
19 positions eliminated during fiscal years 2010/11 and 2011/12 budget cuts; and
20 WHEREAS, upon recommendation of staff, the City Commission deems it in the
21 best interest of the citizens and residents of the City of Boynton Beach to accept the FEMA
22 SAFER grant in the amount of $967,281 and allow the Fire Rescue Department to hire 7
23 probationary firefighters for a period of two years.
24 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
25 THE CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA, THAT:

27 Section 1. The foregoing "Whereas" clauses are hereby ratified and confirmed as
28 being true and correct and are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution upon adoption
29 hereof.
30 Section 2. The City Commission of the City of Boynton Beach hereby accepts the

1 ; FEMA SAFER Grant in the amount of $967,281 and authorizes the Fire Rescue Department
2 to expend the entire program amount of $967,281 for the hiring of 7 probationary firefighters
3 for a period of two years, a copy of the Agreement Articles is attached hereto as Exhibit "A."
4 Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon passage.
