SURVEY RESULTS
Members of the Recreation & Parks Advisory Board conducted the survey at this event by speaking
directly with participants and the public as they entered the event. Twenty -two responses were
received and tabulated.
1. How attendees heard about the event
The majority of people (32 %) heard about the event through a friend; followed by the newspaper
(22 %); Other (22% which consisted of city, parent magazine and PB Healthcare); flyer (18 %) and
website (4 %).
2. Where attendees live
The majority of attendees were from Boynton Beach (73 %). Breakdown by zip code:

3. Currently utilize dog parks on a regular basis
54% of respondents currently take their dogs to a dog park, the majority using Lake Ida in Delray.
46% of respondents do not frequent dog parks and /or do not have a dog.
4. Knowledge about city rules regarding dog parks in Boynton Beach
One -half of the respondents did not know that city code prohibits dogs in parks.
5. Best location to allow dogs on leash in existing parks
The majority indicated Oyer Park (41 %), then Meadows (23 %), Barrier Free (9 %), and Jaycee (4 %).
23% had no preference or did not respond to this question.
6. Willing to pay a user fee
50% indicated a willingness to pay a user fee to build a dog park and /or to pay for increased
maintenance costs for allowing dogs in existing parks. 27% were not, and 23% answered maybe to
this question.
7. Increase or decrease use if dogs allowed in parks
73% said it would increase their use of parks if dogs were allowed. 23% said it would not change
how often they use parks; 1% said it would decrease their usage.
8. Likelihood of attending future Play Outdoors...Unplugged events
Participants were asked how likely they would be to attend a future event on a scale of 1 (not at all
likely) to 10 (definitely likely). 77% responded with a score of 7 or higher; 14% responded with a 6
or lower and 9% did not answer this question.
Comments
• (wants to be able to) Bring small dogs to concerts
• Dog beach (3)
• Don't use parks in BB due to no dogs allowed
• Don't use parks in Boynton due to poor maintenance
• Helps dogs adjust (being able to bring to parks)
• Mail notices in water bills - do not hear about events early enough
• Near the water (dog park)
• Should have Canine Good Citizen training as minimum (Lynn Hoffman, 561 - 305 -3647)
• Suggest east area (downtown) so can eat and bring dogs
• Untrained dogs do not belong in any park
