A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING A GRANT
APPLICATION TO THE FLORIDA RECREATION DEVELOPMENT
ASSISTANCE PROGRAM FOR THE DOWNTOWN MANGROVE PARK;
AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, there is a need in the City of Boynton Beach to
achieve among residents and visitors to our City the highest level
of environmental understanding for preserving the state's natural
environment; and
WHEREAS, there is a demand in Boynton Beach for access to
open space to serve the elderly, the disabled and the
economically disadvantaged; and '
WHEREAS, there is a need in the Boynton Beach downtown area
for a destination location to assist in bringing residents and
visitors to the downtown area; and
WHEREAS, the location of the Downtown Mangrove Park, coupled
with the proposed nature walk, picnicking and canoe tra~ls will
serve as an OPportunity to combine environmental education with a
park in the downtown area accessible to the elderly, the
handicapped as well as the economically disadvantaged; and
WHEREAS, the City of Boynton Beach wishes to pursue state
assistance for the development of this park site;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA THAT:
Section 1. Hereby authorizes the City Manaqer to submit
a grant request to the Florida Recreation Development Assistance
Program for an amounL of $100,000.00, and to sign any necessary
grant documents as may be required for submittal.
Section 2. That the City of Boynton Beach will provide
$100,000.00 in cash match for this grant, if approved by the
State.
Section 3.

This Resolution shall take effect immediately
