ABSENT: Vice Mayor Thomas Ao Summers on vacation. Mayor Michael called the Meeting to order at 7:30 P.M. Mayor Michael advised the Council that the plans for a Referen- dum Election on the City Employees' Pension Plan should be dis- cussed and asked if the Council would like to go into special session at this time. Motion was made by Mr. Nylund, seconded by Mr. Collins that Council go into Special Session. Motion carried. City Attorney advised that in order to have enough time to adver- tise, September 26th be established as the date for the election. The publication dates for the legal advertising are August 17th and August 24th. He recommended using the voting machines 1n- stead of paper ballots and the Clerk suggested one polling place. Councilman ¥~rrell questioned the feasability of one polling place and was informed that for this election it was felt that the one pollins- place would be adequate and would keep the ex- pense to a minimum. Mayor F~chael explained the City Employees could not solicit votes in an "all out flag waving type" campaign but they could ask their friends to vote for the pension plan and it would be permissible to request the various Civic Organlzatlons to help get the voters out. Mr. Nylund then made a motion we hold the election for the City Employee Pension Plan on September 26th, 1967, ~he designated polling place to be the Civic Center, 128 E. Ocean Avenue. Seconded by Mr. Collins and unanimously carried. - 1- M//~UTES - SPECIAL MEETING AUGUST 14,1967 Ronald Pruda, City Attorney, then read the Proclamation on the Referendum Election. Mayor Michael asked for a motion to have t~is Proclamation approved and executed. Councilman Worrell moved that this Proclamation be accepted. Seconded by Councilman Nylund and unanimously carried.
