A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA,
AUTHORIZING AND SUPPORTING THE SUBMISSION
OF A RESTORATION GRANT FOR THE HISTORIC
BOYNTON BEACH ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.
WHEREAS,adjacent to the Municipal Complex is the plot of land
that was home to the first schoolhouse in Boynton Beach; and
WHEREAS, on that property was later constructed a 1913
Elementary School that is still standing today; and
WHEREAS, that School Building housed the seat of learning that
began the process of educational enrichment for many, many Boynton
Beach residents; and
WHEREAS, the site and the building is deemed to be
historically significant to the City of Boynton Beach, who wishes
to participate in its restoration and preservation for future
generations.
Nowv THEREFORE~ BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA TF~T:
Section 1. The City Commission of the City of Boynton
Beach, Florida, authorizes the submission of a special category
grant to the Bureau of Historic Preservation, Department of State
for the first phase of the restoration work on the 1913 Historic
Boynton Elementary School.
Section 2. The City Commission of the City of Boynton
Beach, Florida is committed to provide from cash and in-kind
services $300,000 for this project, in matching funds, for a total
grant request of $600j000 to the State of Florida.
