CITY CLERK TERJEESA PJJg~ GETT (Absent due to death d~n family) Tt~is Special Meeting was called to order by Mayor Azchie at 9:30 a.m. for the purpose of appointing a Chief of Police pursuant to Section 60 of the Charter and according to Civil Service I~ules and l~egt~lations. iV~ayor Archie re commended the appointment of James Erwi%, Prov- isional Chief of Police for the City of Boykton Beach. The City Manager recommended that dt~e to the powers vested in the office of City Manager under Article 6, Section 4, Civil Serviqe l{ules and l~egalations that James Erwin be appointed Provisional Chief of Police ~il such time as all provisions are followed out leading up to final appoinIment. Mr. Mahoney moved that th~ recommendktion oflthe Mayor and City IViaaager to appoint James Erwin, Provisional Chief of Police, be accepted. Motion seconded by. Mr. ]Banks and motion carried ananimo~%sly. Mr° Henderson recommended approval of a chmmge order from Russell and ~L-~o~n for resurfacing in Coquina Cove in the amount of $919.75 payable as an extra to Intercoanty.' Mr. M~dsen moved to accept the recommendatio~ of the engineers and City Manager, seconded by Mr. Summers and unanimously carried. Mayor Archie reconvened the meeting downstairs in order that court could proceed on schedule in the Council Chambers, and recommended that in view of the emergency nature of the appointment of Chief of Police that the motion pertaining to appointment of 3ames Erwin be amended and in lieu of the appointment under ~rticle 6, Section 4 that it be made m~der ~Lrticle 6, Section 6, ~Ernergenc~ Appointment: Civil Service l~ules and Regulations, where- by the City Manager appoint a qualified person for a period of time during the emergency. -2- Mr om. Iv~ahone~y moved that his motion be amended w~th the permission of Mr. Banks to a~poiz~t James Er~v~u: Chief of ~olice , upon the recommenda~ t[on of City Manager under .Section 6, Article 6, Emergency ~a~ppointment, iv~r.
