Received all signed paperwork from Suzanne Ross. • Proofed Group 1 of the Lake Worth Herald newspapers for the LSTA grant. Trained Dawn to proof Groups 2, 3, and 4. Set up a work flow for proofing work. • Prepared draft of midyear LSTA report and Payment number 4 for Anne and Craig to work with. • AmeriCorps Report: ADULTS ESOL Classes: Beginner Class The Beginner ESOL class was held from 9:OOam-10:15am from Monday thru Thursday. 15 total classes were held throughout this month. 217 seats were occupied throughout the 15 classes. The average amount of students in class was 14. The largest class size this month was 17 students. 37 individual students signed up for this class, and all 31 actually attended classes at least once: 4 students (13%) attended only one class 3 students (10%) attended two or three classes 8 students (26%) attended four to six classes 8 students (26%) attended seven to ten classes 7 students (23%) attended eleven or more students This month three (10%) the students had perfect attendance. 10 students (32%) attended both this class and the Advanced Beginner ESOL class at least once. This month we worked on simple present tense. We practiced this tense using language and nationalities alongside with everyday activities. We also spent a great amount of time carrying on a conversation from the various grammar and English structure that was previously learned. We then proceed to cover object pronouns, simple present tense with '-s' vs. 'non-s' ending, adverbs of frequency and 'have/has'. These were used in describing people and frequency of actions. We used the Side by Side Textbook 1 and the accompanying workbook, as well as the Word by Word Basic textbook. We are also using the Oxford Picture Dictionaries as an accessory. Overall, this was an acceptable month for our Beginner's ESOL class. The class size is depreciating. Students are still retaining jobs and going on interviews. It feels good to hear such amazing news. Some of them are able to help their children with homework, and the success stories go on. Advanced Beginner The Advanced Beginner ESOL class was held from 10:30am-11:45am from Monday thru Thursday. 15 total classes were held throughout this month. 72 seats were occupied throughout the 15 classes. The average class size was 5, although we did have as many as 7 students in class all at once. 18 individual students signed up for this class, and all 13 attended classes at least once: 3 students (23%) attended only one class 2 students (15%) attended two to three classes 4 students (31%) attended four to six classes 2 students (15%) attended seven to nine classes 2 students (15%) attended ten or more classes This month only one student had perfect attendance. 10 students (77%) attended both this class and the Beginners ESOL class at least once. This month we learned how to describe ongoing past activities using past continuous tense and reflexive pronouns. We put a lot of focus on reporting a home emergency, emergency preparedness and first-aid instructions using the 'while' clause. We also covered conversational literacy and practice more conversation. We are using the Side by Side 2 textbook and its accompanying workbook. Practice Makes Perfect: English Conversation is the other book that we are using to construct spontaneous conversational skills. We are also using the Oxford Picture Dictionaries as an accessory. The average class size for this month has dropped. Many have seemed to grasp the English and literacy aspect of the class and have not been attending. I have about three students that attend class religiously. But they are still learning great ways to master the English. Private Tutoring Ten (10) students signed up for private tutoring, but only six students actually attended and received tutoring. Four (40%) students received help in grammar and pronunciation. They have been showing a lot of signs that they recognize grammatical errors and how to form their sentence structure. Two (20%) of the students are still receiving help in phonics to learn how to read effectively. They have improved tremendously. One of them in particular is reading very well in class and in the one-on-one sessions. She comprehends the reading materials all the while increasing her reading speed. Overview Overall, 34 individual students signed up for ESOL and all of them attended classes for the month of April. The class sizes descended again this month. We had fewer classes this month due to personal emergency that was not in my control, in turn, required me to cancel a couple of classes. There were nine walk-ins this month. These nine students have fit in perfectly with the class. The students are quite receptive and intentional with one another, it makes it easier for me to teach and tutor. They could have returned material, made a payment or a combination of both. %of Accounts Activated: Percentage of processed accounts that have responded in some way (#of Accounts Activated divided by Accounts in Process). This percentage is a good measure of response rate because it measures the percentage of patrons that have actually responded due to the collection process. Dollars in Skips:Total dollar amount due for accounts with incorrect addresses. Dollars in Dispute:Total dollar amount for all accounts that have been disputed..
