~. Pownall wanted to be assured that he was not p~ying
taxes higher than his neighbours for similar properties. He
objected to the increase in his assessment and mentioned the
properties of Wilcox and 0yet as not being assessed at the
same valuation as his.
The Mayor said the only way to sestle this was ~o enquire
into the general assessment, and that it might be found neces-
sary to increase some of the neighbours, assessments. He did

The. i'~?ayor said the City had spent $2,700 on the Court in
the last couple
.~ears and will do anything it can, but, in
view of the strict budget, it cannot spend any general City
funds.
~.e sugoested a party might be arranged to raise the
necessary money, and promised the Court an electrical fountain,
as it ~;~as certainly an asset to the City.
Referring to the matter of the 'What Not' shop license,
the Mayor said that + '
~hzs had, only been granted a few months
ago, and not two years ago,as had been said, and was still good.
~@s. Ituth(~wers said the license will be meed Mr. Beers has

one apartment above and one below and has been ~atled a two-
~torey building. The lake frontage is figured at ~30 a foot
froms, but property adjacent is spoil area and not taxed. He
showed photographs of the house with a foot of water near it
after a hurricarie. He thought the value should be reviewed
in accordance with the adjacens property.

is ~hree years old but is listed as new, and thought depreci-

Under normal conditions their taxes would not have~oee~_n in-
creased and they had not applied for the exemption heretofore
as their taXes had been s~ small. He dis not think there was
a great nu~_be~ of such ca'es.
Mr, Gr~x_~n said he did not think the Com~nissioners had
the power to graht such exemption~ which was a matter for the
Court House in West Palm Beach in the first place, where~ al-
though application had nov been made in the time allowed by
law, if lack of the exemption is a hardship, or was not
applied for through error, they might consider it and gran5
exemption.
Mr, Shoom said he did not know how it comld be worked as
it would mean extra money to be taken from the budget, and
every Department has been cut to the bone. He thought it
~ be a mistake.
· ~o~nson suggested thaz a calculator would be of great
assistance in the City Hall and would Save much time~ especial-
