The meeting was called to order by the Mayor.
The minutes of the May l%th meeting were read by City Clerk Dorothy
V. Williams and accepted as read on motion of Mr. Hood seconded by Mr.
Province.

Mr. Merkel moved~ and Mr. Province seconded, to clear the way to
give lots 238 to 241 (ino!usive) beaok to Matthew Hand. This involves
removing the present dedication of the County.
A letter from Renice M. Lansing, principal of Boynton Beach School,
asked the Commission underwrite the purchase of additional equipment for
the recreational program planned for this summer by the Board of Public
Instruction. Mr. Lansing said the Board offers the arena of activity,
the existing equipment, and the services of two play supervisors for
th~? planned recreational program for local scho
a lls~ of needs,, rnnnin~ e~ ~^~ ...... ol children. He cited

~ommission purchase e~-~£I~ °N ?~G' Mr. HOod made a motion the
~n~ no~ ~o exceed $100 for this project. He
suggested the amo~nts of some items might be scaled down and soecified
any "change,, from the $100 be returned to the City. Mr. Shook second e~
the motion.
A letter from Gulf Stream Estates asked the City of Boynton to
blacktoo a street in the Estates, if the GoS.E. residents pay for the
materia~ Mr. Merkel made the point that the street under discussion is
an old street, explaining that, thus, this could not establish any pre-
cedent for the same deal for new stree=s in the Estates - or elsewhere.
~ith that on the records Mr. Merkel moved the deal be consu~ated.
Hood seconded. At this juncture Mayor Purinton reiterated his message
that all the needy streets would be fixed as soon as possible, He,
again, urged all to bring to the attention of the Co~mission any roads
they thought more imperative than some others. He, also, reiterated
the fact these imorovements (made with city equipment an~ labor) save
the tax payers about 60% of what the Job would cost if done by outside
concerns.
Mayor Purinton explained the absence.of Public ~Jorks Supervisor,
Jo~hn Raulerson by telling the audience Mr. Rau!erson is attending a
five-day school at Gainsville.
A letter from the First Baptist Church of Boynton (sponsoring group,
this year, for the local Boy Scout Troop) asking a light by the troop
headquarters, the clearing of the brush and the ooening of the road by
the troop home; proved to be out-moded since this work has already been
started. Homer Shelton, of the church executive board, thanked the
Commission for its assistance and exolained the letter had been written
before the clearing started.
After a discussion of needed additional equipment for the city use,
Mayor Purinton appointed Commissioner HOod a committee of one to get
prices on a second-hand rake, proposed for Purchase.
A discussion on a possible charge for water, used on construction
jobs in Boynton, resulted in the following: Motion made by Mr. Shook
seconded
by Mr. Merkel that it be ootional with the consume~ whether
water is metered or flat rate of $~00 for use of water from fire hy-
drant for constructicn of foundation and preoaration for flooring only.
Cityeffect.~tt°rney Griffith was instructe~ to draw up an ordinance to this
City Clerk D.V. Williams reminded the Commission an old ordinance
#~ requires each street to be a minimum of ~0 feet in width and each
alley to be a minimum of 16 feet. She reminded her audience no lesser
dimensions may he accepted according to law.

Mr. Province reported on the proposed purchase of chairs for use
by the steadily-increasing audience-attendance at these Commission meet-
ings. It was decided to table action on this until next meeting when
samples from Harry Geller might be seen and priced.
~t the suggestion of Mr. Merkel the Co~mission decided to 'instruct
Mr. Raulerson to clear a corner of !and near the Seaboard Railway and
the crossroad. This will give better visibility to~ehicular traffic.
Mr. Hood brought a request from the Boynton Beach baseball tea~ for
help in putting a roof on the bleachers on the baseball diamond at Pence
Park. The Commissioners w~re unanimous in agreeing the. team should be
given "every cooperation,, in the way of equipment and man-power to com-
plete this project.
Ralph Schrimper, Vice-president and Director of t'he Boynton Beach
Chamber of Commerce asked the Commissioners to provide a Captains, Prize
for Boynton,s Second Annual Summer Fishing Tourney now in p~ogress.
Mayor Purinton said this project has his hearties~ approval and
should be credited to ~advertising, since our fishing is our biggest
advertising asset to many-. On motion of Mr. Province seconded by Mr.
Hoodfor ~hisa priZepurpose.Costing not more than $$0 would be donated this tournament
Mr. Shook moved and Mr. Province seconded a motion to deed to J.
Allison Banks lots 19-22 Beverly Hills #~ in lieu of his deed dated
June 27th, 1956 for lots 1-4 Inclusive Block 2~ Boynton Heights Addition.
19~6Thts deed.res°lved a problem growing out of Mr. Banks, failure to record his
City Attorney Griffith was authorized to look into the matter of the
title on the land owned by Tom ~itfield in the Roberts ~dditlon behind
the Dr. ~ilkas Clinic.
Mrs. George Seegitz and Mrs. J.J. Milliams appeared for the Garden
Club asking heto in getting roads and walks in the cemetary and to hav-
ing water available. The Garden Club will landscape it, if the City
will provide these necessi~ies said Mrs. Seegitz. Mayor Purintonagreed
on the importance of this and promised Chester ~Jright. the
would be approached to survey this project as soon as'oossi~e~
Fred Wilhelm asked what action had been taken on his plat submitted
last month. Mayor Purinton explained this was Zoning Boar~ business but
promised to contact ~aul Mercer of the Zoning Board and let Mr. ~ilhelm
know the date of the next~oning Board meeting. ~
Howard Smith, executive Secretary of the East Coast Highways, ~sso.
gave a talk on the importance of continuity of action the length of the
whole East coast. He sighted problems miles up North ~hich might (or
did) have repercussions down h~re.

Mr. Smith circulated maps of "The Holiday Highway- the new name the
Eest Coast Hfghwaysf Association has for U.So #lo
These colorful maps defeated their purpose, locally, when it wag
seen Boynton,s famous inlet is not mentioned, and n~me "Boynton Beach,,
is written in the smallest type used for any city° Mr. Smith, after
the meeting, promised to rectify these at the next printing.
There being no further business the Mayor declared the meeting
adjourned.
