The re~olar meeting of the City Commissioners of the City of
Boynton Beach~ Florida convened at 2:00 P.M. on May 6th~ 19~7.
Those present were:
Paul Mercer - Mayor
Clarence Be~son - City Clerk
The meeting was called to order by Mayor Mercer.
A letter was received from George Getz complaining of distnrbances~
emanating from Juke boxes~ etc. in Colored Town, The letter, was
turned over to the Police Chief fo~ further action.

A motion was made by Commissioner Bsnson and seconded by
Mayor Mercer that all taxes be removed from the Roll against the
Boynton ~roGuce Market Inc. Their property is more particularly
described as Dewey's S/D of S½ of SW~ W of Canal - Section 22,
Lots 2~ ~d 26.
The valuation on Lots 206-210 Incl. in Cherry Hills in the name
of B, and Dora Knowles was increased in the 1946 Tax Roll from $2%.00
per lot to $50. O0 per lot over the 19~5 Tax Roll. Authorization was
given to the Deputy Clerk to reduce these values to agree with the 19~
Tax Roll.
kn Attorney~ representing John Gaine, appeared at ~he meeting to
appeal to.the Commissioners for a refund of the whole or a part of
the smount of the wholesale beer license ~490 issued on November 19~ 1946
which had never been used. The Commissioners ruled to refund the entire
amount'of $200.00 to John Gaine.
Mrs. Ella Adams asked the Commission for labor required to stone
that portion of Valencia Road in L~ke Boynton Estates which services
63 lots which she recently sold. She stated the stohe would be furnished
by the County.. The Commission ruled t~at the City was not financially
able at this time to assume cost of thms work.
The bid for, receiving chamber and pump house in connection with
the City ,sewer was again withheld until City is financially able to
take on this additional cost.
RESOLUTION
0om~issioner Benson moved the adoption of the
following Resolution:
~HEP~.~AS, the term of Paul Mercer as Mayor-Commissioner of
the City of Boynton Beach~ Florida, has eXpired; and
~S, F. L. Purinton, the candidate elected to fill the
office of 14ayor-Commissioner~ at an election b~!d on the 15 day
of April, ~.D. 1947~ D~s failed and refused to qualify as such
E~yor-Co~_.issioner; and
~%~R~S~ by reason of the foregoing facts a vacancy does exist
in the office of Y~yor-Commissioner cf the City of Boynton Beach~
Florida;
NOW~ T~EFOP~ BE IT RESOLVED by the City Commission of
Boynton Beach, Florida; that, by reason of t~ expiration of the
term of office of Paul Mercer as Mayor-Cof~issioner of the City of
Boynzon Beach~ Florida, and the neglect and refusal of F. L. Ptu~inton,
the candidate elected to hold such office, zo qualify as
Co~mmissioner of the City of Boynton Beach, Florida, there hms been
crea~ed, and now exists, a vacancy in the office of ~.yor-Commissioner
in the City of Boynton Beach, Florida.; and that a vacancy is hereby
declared to exist in the office of M~ayor-Commissioner of the City of
Boynton Beach, Florida.
BE IT ~THERP~SOLVED, that a special-election of the quali-
fied electors of the City of BoynZon Beach be held in the municipality
of Boynton Beach, Florida, for the purpose of electing a Mayor-
Co-~nm~iseioner, on the _10th day of June, A.D. 1947.
BE IT F~'RTHER RESOLVED:
(a) That such special election be hel~ on ~e~y,~ the l~Oday
of June, 1947;
(b) That the poling place be at the Pavilion located at the
Shuffleboard Court in the municipality of Boynton Beach, Florida;
(e) That the polls shall be open and such election conducted
between ~he ho~rs of 8 o'clock A.Mo and 6 o'clock P.M. , on the
lO _day of June~ 19~?;
(d) Tha~ the officers and officials who shall

such notice be published in the Bo~ton Beach News, in four issues
thereof;
(g) ~That the registration books of such municipality shall be
open for registration pursuant ~o the ordinances of such muni-
cipaiity;

ComMissioner ~Ieroer seconded the motion for the adopt-
ion of the foregoing Resolution, and upon a vote be~nE had thereon~
the same~as unanimously passed and adopted.
Mr. Charles Senior brought up before the Commission a
suggestion that several firemen be sent to the Fire Convention to be
held in Miami~ Floria on the 13th, 15th and l~th of May and suggested
that if possible, the City furnish an amount to held defer expenses
of the trip. The Commissioners ruled to allow $75.~0 towards expenses
incurred in sending representatives to this Convention.
It was suggested that copies of a legally worded petition
be drawn up by the City Attorney for the use of ali proposed candidates
in order to have all petitions of candidates worded alike. The
Co~mission ruled that this be done and in addition, publish the request
for proposed candidates to droo in~ City Hall to secure such petition.
A Building permit #~S, dated September $, 1956 was returned
by Morris p. Wells in the hopes that the Co~mission will refund the
whole or a part of the cost of the permit for the re~son that it was
never used and the building was not construct!ed. By action of the
Commissioners, authorization was given the Deputy Clerk to send Mr. Wells
a check for $12. ffo, the full amount of the building permit.
A bill received from Himes & Himes for accounting services
rendered in April, 1957 was withheld awaiting an itemized statement
as it was believed by the Commission that no services was rendered in
April.
A bill from C. L. McCoy, the City Attorney was withheld
pending further investigation.

M. H. Partin requested an adjustment in the land value of property
owned in Arden Park. and Country Club Estates. The Commission ruled
that the 19~? T~xvalue be reduced to $50.00 per lot on the following:
Country Club Estates, B!ock.4~ Lots 1-13 Incl.
g~den Park, Lots 151-172 Incl.
Also, it was ruled to settle the delinquent taxes on these properties
by the payment Of two years delinquent plus the current tax.
By motion made by Mayor Mercer and seconded by City Clerk
Benson, Mr. Holland T. May~ Depnty Clerkwas duly appointed Treasurer
of the City of Boynton Beach effective immediately.
