COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF'BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA,
HELD AT 'THE CITY HALL~ JANUARY 1V~ 1949.
The City Council convened at a regular meeting at the
City Hall, January 1Vth, 1949, at 7:30 P.M.

The meeting was called to order by Mayor Purinton.
The minutes of the regular meeting of January 3rd, 1949
were read. Mr. Woolbright called attention to the omission of
his motion regarding severance pay of Mr. Cline aud Mr. Tat~n~
and requested minutes: be amended by addition of this motion.
Motion was made by Mr. Woolbright, seconded by Mr. Mood, and
unaminously carried that the minutes be adopted as amended.
The Treasurer,s report as of this date, was read and
accepted as follows:

A letter signed by Fred Willadsen, F~rs. Fred Tilladsen,
Carl Guldman, Joseph and Alice R. Nimms, property owners in Sam
Brown Jr~s S/b, requesting that Palm Way be vacated was read.
They offer to convey other property, (by Quit CLaim Deed) to the
City to be used as a street right-of-way, which will make the
property concerned more assessible aud useable. Nayor Purinton
appointed Mr. Woolbright and Mr. Shook, as a committee of ~wo, to
look the situation over, and report back at the next meeting.
A letter was read from City Attorney, Jack Collie, stating
that the transfer of city licenses issued to Lawrence Jacobson
and the Club Continental to Mr. J.D. Clements Jr. is in order.
The transfer of these licenses has been approved by the Board of
County Commissioners of Palm Beach County.
A letter from the Palm Oeach County Health Dept, regs~ding
the uns&uitary conditions existing on property located at Lake
Avenue and the F.E.C. Ry tramks was read. Following discussion,
Mayor Purinton recoEEended that the building be conde~sd as a
fire hazard, as well as for the unsanitary conditions. Motion~
was made by Nr. Hood, seconded by Mr, Ross, and unaminously
carried that the City Council concur with the Nayor's recommenda-
tion. The Building Inspector was ordered to inspect the premises,
and to conde~athe premises.
A letter signed by property owners on Curtis Street was read.
Y~s. Winnifred Houghton, representing Shangri-La Colonies, Inc.,
appeared before the Co~mcil and ~quested the City to assist in
the paving of Curtis Street, from Green Strsst west, a distance
of approximately 1,850 feet. Following discussion, ~r. Purinton
recommended that the Council go on record to have a survey m~de,
and dump shell rock fn~ when it is available. Mr. Shook seconded
the recommendation, aug it was unaminously carried.
Estimate~ for the lighting of the new Shuffleboard Courts
were received from: Atlantic Coast Electric Co. - - - - $1V5.00

Motion was made by Mr. Woolbright, seconded by Mr. Shook, aud
unaminously carried that the lowest bid be accepted.

The Clerk was instructed to notify Mr. A.E. Shook that
the City is ready to complete the transaction as per contract
and agreement covered by Resolution dated March l, 1948.
Following discussion of the cost ef installation of water
meters, motion was made by Mr. Ross, seoonded by Mr. Shook, and
unaminously carried that a charge be made for all tapping of
· mains, and cost of installation of meters, and the following
schedule of charges was adopted:

Notion was made by ~ir. Ross, seconded by Mr. Rood and
umaminously carried that Mrs. Nu~iel Herring~s salary be
raised from $150.00 to $175.00 per month, effective Jan. 15, 1949.
Mr. G.B. German, Asst. Tax Agent for the F.E.C. Ry. Co.
appeared before the meeting to further discuss, the 1948 personal
property tax on tho railroad property, Be made an offer to pay.
$4,012.15, and requested abatement of $491.16 on 1/2 mile of /'
track in the south end of the City. Following discussion, motion
was made by Mr, Purinton, seconded by Mr. Hood, that $491.16 be
abated from the 1948 tax of $4,503.31. The following vote was had:
In favor of abatement: Mr. Purinton, Mr. Hood, Mr. Shook.

Mr. German thanked the Council~ and stated payment would be made
by the latter part of this week.
M~. Kent Buchannsn requested the City of vacate an ease-
ment through his property, Block 8, Lake Boynton Estates, and
agreed to give the City an easement through the north half of
this Block. Motion was made by Mr. Woolbright, seoonded by Mr.
Shook, and unaminously carried that Mr. Buchannan be given per-
mission to move the easement 20~ to the north.
Mr. Hamilton, principal of the Boynton Schools, requested
the Council to make land available for a street right-of-way for
extension of Green Street thru to the south City limits. He
stated the South Palm Beach County High School would be completed
by July 15th. Mr. Purinton and mr. Shook will meet with County
Commissioner C.Y. Byrd, to make plaus to get this work started.
Mr. Purinton appointed Mr.
Zoning Board, to replace Mr. A.E.

Motion was made by Mr. Ho~d, seconded by Mr. Ross, and
unaminously carried that the City Judge, Mr. Ralph W. Chapman,
be pai~ a salary of $50.00 per month, starting Janus~y l, 1949;

~r. Robert M. Brock presented a plan for a trailer park
to be built in the north end of the City, (Lots I and 2, Sam
Brown Jr's S/D). He was advised to submit h_s~ plan to Nr. Paul
Mercer, Chairman of the Zoning Board for approval, and recommen-
dation to the City Council.
Mr. Ho~d presented a plan for the setting up of committees
for five City departments, with a Councilman in charge of each
department.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.
