The City Counci2 convened at a Specia2 Meeting at the City
: 0 November 25th, 1949.

Councilmen Present:
Mr. F.L. Purinton~ Mayor
Mr. C.H. Hood
Mr. W.T. Woo!bright
Mr. Ralph Ross
The meeting was called to order by Mayor Purinton who stated
the purpose of the meeting Was to discuss the job of city attorney
and to decide uoon signs advertising Boynton.
Mayor Purinton asked City Clerk Dorothy Williams to read a
letter from the law firm of Winters, Foskett~ Cook & Tylander
within whom firm reposed the job of City Attorney. The letter
signed by Bert Winters~ exolained the firms desire to resign
based uoon - first~ its inability to open a local office in Boynton
as they originally olanned and second~ to relieve the board of
Commissioners of any criticism for appointing out of town office
or person. The letter also included a legal ooinion that it is
oossible to have more than one voting precinct in Boynton provided
this is done to conform with the time element etc.
Commissioner Woolbright moved the resignation be accepted.
Commissioner Ross seconded it and it was oassed unanimously.

Many of the eighteen oersons who attended the meeting took
part in the open discussio~ of the signs which are to be olaced
at the north and south entrance to Boynton on Federal Highway.
The Consensus was for signs twenty feet long, ten feet wide
and bearing the inscriotion "Boynton Beach Welcomes You" plus a
picture of an arching ~ailfish and the caption "Five Minutes to
Sailfishing Grounds".
A.C. ~nipp!e of West Palm Beach was introduced by the new
city attorney 3riffith who explained B~ippie Woul~d like to bid
for the job,
After looking at Mr. ~ghipole's samples~ listening to his ideas
and getting his prices it was decided to award him the contract for
two signs at $~00. Captain Kenny Lyman, Allen King and Arthur
Worrell were appoi~nted a committee of three to o~ay the sketches
and captions.

The spots picked for placing the signs were the James Miner
property west of the Florida East Coast tracks (coming into Boynton)o
On the southern boundary the Boynton Nursery was selected as the
site.
After thanking those present for the fine t-~rnout and for their
evident interest Mayor Purinton adjourned the meeting.
