Minutes 03-06-50MINUTES OF ~HE REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BOYNTON BE~CH~ FLORIDA, HELD AT THE CITY PL~LL ON THE 6%~ OF MARCH 1950 The City council convened at the regular meeting at the City Hall, at 7:30 P.M., March 6th, 1950. A. of Seacrest High School Complaining of violations of the no-liquer-to-miners ordinance. Mayor Purinton said if any evidence of any such violations is brought before the body~ they can act. Commissioner Hood moved, Commissioner Province seconded sending $5,308~00 to Chase National Bank for interest on the Bonded Indebted- ness due April 1st. Bids on tires for the Police Department were received from Paul Mercer and from County Mercantile. Mercer's bid of $78.~k being lower,- was accepted on motion of Commissioner Province seconded by Commissioner Shook Mayor Purinton brought of the Boynton Grade school school baseball equipment. in a request from Renice Lansing, prlncipl~e for help in purchasing and maintaining Commissioner Hood reminded the grouo some of the gasoline tax is allocated (in theory~ at least) to grade school athletics and suggested "we go after our share". - 3 - Mayor Purinton phoned Mrs. Lauren Hand, school board reoresenting Boynton on this. Following much discussion Commissioners Merkel and Hood were asked to report back on this matter. Ed Sherratt, editor of the local newspaper sopke for the American Legion BasketbAll Team which needs help in financing their transporta- tion to out of town A A U games. Commissioner Hood moved to give the team $25 a day for expenses for each day played in the tournament for a maximum of three days. Commissioner Shook seconded and the motion was passed. The passing changed from a majority to a unanimous vote when Commissioner Merkel (who had debated against certain phases of this expenditure) voted "yes". Ed Sherratt reported the results of an Athletic Committee which is handling the city baseball team. He suggested periodic reports from this group might held keep the Commission and the~opulous in- formed of the team's activities and t~b~? increase inter'est. This committee plans a "farm system" for tra~ning potential players, much as is used in Big League Baseball. This would tie in with yomugsters anticipating playing on the "varsity" when they grew up. Chief Carver reminded the group the Fraternal Order of Police, Wonder City Lodge, Number I (of Lake Worth) sponsers a boys' baseball team for which Boynton Boys are eligible. Request from Rathbun Hauling for a sign on the highway was denied when all agreed there are too many signs now. Mrs. ~dams appeared on two counts. One to ask if these over 6~ years should be eligible for tax exemption. The other about a ditch on property recently sold by her to Oliver Fall~cinilli. Both matters were tabled for further information. Bedford Jones, Board of Health representative~ asked that easements and alleys be cleaned. Mr. Jones reported these cleaned up by John R~ulerson helped con- siderably, but many more need attention at this time. Mr. Jones also reported the city dump needs attention explaining its present contition has caused a discontinuance of the mosquito spraying orogram. Commissioner Hood reported upon the project to buy grader and roller so the city might do much of its own work. After hearing detailed descriptions of prices and specific equip- ment each included, the group authorized Commissioner Hood to resume the Job of "getting the needed equipment as soon and as quicEly as oossible".
