A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA,
URGING THE PALM BEACHCOUNT¥ SCHOOL BOARD
NOT TO CLOSE POINCIANA~ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
AND KEEP SAID SCHOOL OPEN AS A PRE-
KINDERGARTEN THROUGH GRADE 5
SCHOOL; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, in order to maintain the viability of our
coastal schools and to insure the continuity of neighborhood
schools; and
WHEREAS, the maqn~tl school concept is a proven means to
assist in achieving racial balance and enhancing the quality
of education; and
WHEREAS, the City Co~.mmission of the City of Boynton
Beach deems it to be in the best interests of the
citiz( residents of the City of Boynton Beach to urge
the ] County School Board to keep Poinciana
:hoOl open; and
the City Commission oi the City of Boynton
Beach urges the Palm Beach County School Board to
resources to establish a magn~t~ program
at said School, which will benefit the
o~L ~ an educational standpoint as well as allow them
t6 in the neighborhood in which they live.
Nm, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE C~%~YOFBOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA, THAT:
S~ction 1. The City Commission of the City of Boynton
Beach, Florida does hereby urge the Palm Beach County School
Board Poinciana Elementary School open as a pre-
5th grade facility and establish a magnet
program school.
Section 2. The City Commission of the Cit of Bo nton
Beach, Flor~d~ hereby directs the City Clerk to provide ~Ycopy
of thi~ Re~olution, upon passage, to the Palm Beach County
School Boar~.
Section 3. This Resolution will become effective
immediately upon passage.
