DEPARTMENT OF DEVELOPMENT TO: Chair and Members Historic Resources Preservation Board FROM: Michael Rumpf Development Director DATE: September 5, 2019 RE: Historic Resources Preservation Board Regular meeting of September 9, 2019 Staff Report The impact on staffs work schedule from Hurricane Dorian prevented a more complete agenda for the Board; however, staff has decided that a partial agenda is better than no agenda, or preferable over attempting to reschedule and not find an acceptable date for all members. Therefore staff decided at minimum, the Board should be given the opportunity to devote the time to continue discussions on the preferred layout for a historic plaque. Item 5. Historic Plaques for Designated Properties Funding has been located and a purchase order has been processed for the initial design fee and fabrication of a plaque. Recall that the manufacturer will create a design with the desired crest element, and has provided a cost figure of$172.88. This figure includes both the initial design fee of$130 and the per unit cost for this sample unit of$42.88. Shipping is estimated at $18 raising the total estimated cost to $190. Upon inspection of the sample product, the Board can determine if the design is acceptable for use. The latest version of the design incorporating staff comments is below. There remains a lack of consensus on the latest version of the vendors design and therefore warrants further consideration by the Board. It is important to remember that the sales representative indicates that the design will be a rather flat image with limited 3-dimensional characteristics. Staff will confirm the cost for the vendor to redesign the image, but assumes such cost will be minimal. Below are images of the original layout by staff intended to represent the Board's desired direction, and the design created by the vendor intended to replicate the Board's layout. Additional images will be presented to the Board at the meeting to guide or inspire further discussions and brainstorming. Original layout by staff: Mock-up version by vendor: TON' B EA FA I.
