A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA
STRONGLY OPPOSING THE PALM BEACH COUNTY
COMMISSION REDISTRICTING PLAN,
REQUESTING FURTHER STUDY; AUTHORIZING
AND DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO FORWARD
COPIES OF THIS RESOLUTION TO EACH COUNTY
COMMISSIONER AND TO THE ATTORNEY
GENERAL.
WHEREAS, the Palm Beach County Commission adopted a
~edistricting plan setting forth new boundaries for the counties
~even commission districts; and
WHEREAS, the district boundaries adopted by the County
/ommission on March 4, 1992, violate the letter and spirit of
?lorida Law with respect to the creation of voting districts; and
WHEREAS, the redistricting results in the City of Boynton
.each being split into three voting districts; and
WHEREAS, the boundaries of District 7 are neither contiguous
lor compact but rather constitute a serpentine boundary
~tretching from Silver Branch Road on the north to Linton Blvd.
In the south.
/ NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED ~ THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
~ITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA, THAT.
Section 1. The City Commission of the City of Boynton
Beach, Florida on behalf of the. citizens of Boynton Beach
~trongl¥ object to the approved redistricting of the county by
hhe County Commission as being improper, self-serving to the
~itting Commissioners, and in violation of basic provisions of
Florida Law.
Section 2. The City Clerk is hereby directed to forward
copy of this Resolution to each County Commissioner and to the
%ttorney General.
